Having some aches and Googled "Kidney Stone symptoms". Well berkely.

Friday night after the symphony event my left side starting aching.  I assumed maybe the stormtrooper costume was hitting me weird, hadn't worn it much lately.  Didn't remember running into anything?

SWMBO said to take ibuprofen, which is my go-to at 55 anyway.  Yesterday it was still sore but nothing hurts to press on it, feels like muscle soreness or got punched in the ribs.  She had mentioned kidney stones but I thought kidneys were much lower, and more towards your back.

I Googled symptoms yesterday at work and was like well E36 M3.  So far that soreness is all I've had, peeing hasn't been anything different or hurting.  Guess who's drinking more water than usual?  (Like any at all, usually it's tea/coffee unless I'm doing costume events or car stuff.)

When I passed my kidney stone, I went from not feeling anything at all to curled up in a fetal position in about 10 minutes.  I barely made it back home to have DW drive me to the emergency room.

It felt like someone was shoving a piece of piano wire from the left side small of my back to just under my navel.

Fortunately after a couple hours on a gurney in the ER, with some twilight anesthesia, I passed it completely.  But it was the opposite of fun.  It was about the size of a pieece of aquarium gravel.

As someone that regularly gets kidney stones every 5 years or so, your symptoms don't match my experience. I usually go from 1 to 100 quite quick. I have gotten UTIs but after the pain. 

It always hurts both the body and the wallet as I end up on the ER most of the times looking for dilaudid. 

Odd that this should come up now. I've been fortunate to never experience them, but my wife is practically a walking rock quarry. As I type this, she's undergoing lithotripsy to break up some larger stones, including a 9.1mm bastard. Her pain is inconsistent, honestly most of the time she feels fine, even when she has active stones, but when the pain does hit her, boy howdy. She's doubled over, shaking, throwing up, etc. It's the worst.

Kidney stone eh? Do you have any Dilaudid or Heroin?

That was an experience I never want to have again. My condolences. Mine didn't pass, instead they had to go in and sonically obliterate the thing. Good luck!

Only time I've ever had one I went from "Huh, I just peed. Why does it feel as if I still have to pee?" to calling 911 pretty fast.

I had no idea what was wrong, but I tried to tough it out for a while and then decided whatever it was, it was something seriously wrong and I couldn't just rub some dirt on it and walk it off.

My dad used to get kidney stones fairly frequently.  He said that the only thing in his entire life that was more painful was when his appendix went out on him.

I had one years back.went from gut ache to "I think something in my gut ruptured, take me to the emergency room" in an hour or two.

Hospital gave me morphine then sent me home with opiates. It took two weeks to pass. It hurt horribly, I was pissing blood. I was one day away from having a retrieval operation (that didn't involve any cutting, going right up the pee hole). Some of the worst pain I have felt.

I felt the relief when it hit my bladder, passing it from there was pretty much a non-event, it didn't hurt, it just made me flinch. 

It's right up there with the most pain I have felt. 

See the urologist, they have meds that will relax things and make it pass easier. Don't do what I did and lay still in bed for two weeks, try to move. The more you move, the more it will move down the ureter from the kidney to bladder and the faster you will pass it. You get premium man points for jumping jacks. All I could manage was a fetal position and crawling to the bathroom to strain my pee. (Just pee in a jar and strain after, take less coordination)

Also, don't watch fear and loathing in las Vegas while high on opiates. It's...  Not good that way...

I had a back pain that would not go away last year...a couple of weeks of chiropractic did not help. Chiro suggested it might be a kidney problem, and to go to the urgent care. First thing urgent care did was have me pee in a cup - apparently they can tell pretty fast if it's a kidney problem that way.  They did the lab work on it on-site, took 15 minutes. 

Thankfully, it was not- ended up just being a muscle that simply would not un-tense. A few days of industrial strength muscle relaxers cleared it up. 

Years ago I had a periodic cystoscope as a bladder cancer followup.  The urologist decided he needed to dye my kidney tubes since they had never been done by my original urologist.  About 6:00 that night my abdomen starting hurting and things quickly  escalated.   I would move from the bed, to the floor, to the toilet trying to get comfortable.  I eventually was sitting on the toilet banging my head against the wall.  I finally fell asleep around midnight and was fine when I woke up the next morning.  I still have no idea what caused the pain, but it sure sounded like when one of my coworkers had kidney stones.  Only his went on for days.  I hope I never truly get a stone.  

I had lower back pain 10 years ago. It was moderate but fairly constant and lasted about a week. Got up one morning to pee and heard a clink of something hitting the toilet. I remember thinking that was odd. Later that day I realized my back was no longer hurting. I don't know it was a stone and if it was it was small. 

I drink a lot more water now instead of sodas and crap so I hope to never have a bad one. 

Kidney stones don't ache. They CRIPPLE you. 
 

As in, I collapsed on the ground instantly in the fetal position in searing pain vomiting and thinking I had ruptured something major and was about to die. 
 

You may have a UTI or something, but I doubt it is a kidney stone. 

Yeah my dad had one and he went from being fine to debilitating pain instantly, there was no build-up time. Finally stopped with the sodas after that.

Edit: Whoops, old thread I had open. So I guess if it was a kidney stone you would know by now?

Years ago, I had a sudden, super-sharp pain in that area.

I was sure it was a kidney stone. (Had to be, right?)

So I went to the doctor.

It was my back, he said. I had sprained it earlier while climbing into a Spec Miata.

See, now I'm not so sure.  It's a week ago tonight, and so far just the one symptom.  Dull ache in my left side just below the ribs, maybe slightly to the front as well.

No issues urinating, and doing it quite often with the water I'm now drinking (which I will keep up after this is over).  No nausea, vomiting, fever, nothing else.  A few nights it's gotten lighter to reappear during the workday.  Taking 3 ibuprofen 2 or 3 times a day.

Maybe it's a muscle issue?  I've had back issues most of my life.  If it's a stone it's taking its sweet time.
