My first car went to a kid who was woefully unprepared for the tail happy nature of an overpowered VW Superbeetle. It only lasted 6 months before backing quickly into something hard and unmovable
That's great. My first car is still in my garage some 17 years later. In fact, I just worked on it tonight to try to get it back on the road for the first time in 8 years.

That's about the sitch I'm in, minus the working on it part. And I've had it for almost 30 years.
My first car, a '68 Camaro, I sold to a friend with the proviso that I had first dibs if he sold it. I forget why, but for some reason he wasn't intending on keeping it long term. So one day I see it on the back of a flat bed tow truck. I was curious about what failed, so a couple days later I called him to see what happened. It turns out that the flatbed driver was stealing it at the time I saw it. It was never found.

i was working on mine last weekend. its been a decade since it last ran...... stupid thieves!
Bought my first cat for $450 and drove it home. Being 14 my Dad made me return it and get my money back (got $425). Saw it on the road last month but I might not be able to afford it or talk the guy into selling....1969 Shelby Mustang w/428 and 4 speed. I might have crashed and died in it as I was only 14 and rather...daring!

Here's my friend's story (added bonus for this board was that it was a Miata):
