I see people on here asking for simple phones all the time, here's something coming up for those who want to avoid the stigma of the Jitterbug

There's no info on that yet but since it's a staple of old Nokia phone OSes it probably will.

Now if that camera could upload to Facebook, even if it didn't run a Facebook app, I would personally buy one for my mother so she would stop texting me her crappy resolution cell image and having me log into her Facebook account just to upload it.

At some point I'm going to have to get a damn smartphone, much as I hate the idea. I ga-ron-tee you I won't be one of those azzholes shown in the TV ads coveting other people's phones or one of the hipsters digging dirt out of their phone in a oh so cool coffee shop and I won't fall in a fountain while texting.

Have you ever noticed that every cellphone user in the ads is an ass? Not just in terms of public behavior, but in the stuff they do with their phones. For example, there was one a few years ago where dude had forgotten his wife's anniversary. So he was making restaurant reservations on his phone while he was talking to her. Yeah, he's my role model.

There's nothing wrong with smartphones. They can be really handy. It's all in how you use them.

Since she can text the photo to you that means she can text it to facebook. Found this bit about it

I found that if you want to use your text message feature to update your Facebook page, you have to activate the "Mobile" feature in your facebook account. You go to "Account settings", then click on "Mobile" on the left-hand side of the page. You'll then have to add your mobile phone number in and activate the text messaging feature in the settings. FB will tell you to send a text message to a numeric account with a letter (my case it was the letter "F") to verify. FB will then text you back an activation code for you to put in to the Facebook Mobile settings so that it can verify communication with your mobile phone.

As an effort to simplify my life, I'd been looking at replacing my smart phone with a "dumbphone" but, everything I'd found so far felt like a Dollar General piece of garbage. The only thing that I'd hate is the T9 texting, the one thing I've gotten spoiled by is the Qwerty keyboard.

I may be interested....

I have an iPhone, and I have no regrets. 2x more expensive, yes, but 1000000000x the functionality.

yeah, my daughter made the mistake of signing my mother up on FB last weekend. So far shes in that confused "I don't know what to do with this" stage....I hope it goes no further.

Dear Luddites...if you want to do any of our banger rallies a phone with email capability is a minimum requirement :)

After my stepdad passed away after a freak accident at home 3 years ago, I decided to get her computer literate & connect with the world at 63. Created a Yahoo email, created a Facebook account, set up my stepdad's old desktop with one-click icons for everything. She didn't know where the power button was, I got her up to a decent speed pretty quick. Facebook, Youtube, her school's email system, news... She loves it.

Of course I had to set her Facebook status on my view as no photos. She reposts every berkeleying photo/meme she sees on her feed. Bah. But I'd love for her to have a smart phone she could take a photo of her cat, and post it to her Facebook with one berkeleying button.

Her head would explode if she tried to use my S3.

Nope Street Safari (Organizers of BABE which has ended now) would never put a requirement on it. They did manual photo scoring every night. Very long and painful process which a) limits what you can do on challenges each day b) means using multiple people to do scoring (which opens some scoring up to undue subjectivity c) makes running an event a lot of extra work

It is one of the areas where the organizer of those events and I did not see eye to eye. His game, his choice. I'll ease my workload with a little extra tech. :)

My dad is a programmer and mom hated computers. Never wanted one in the house, never wanted to use it when we got one. Then she found out QVC was online and everything changed.

I talked her into putting her own business online and within a few months her online orders were taking in more than she was making at the specialty shows she normally sold at. My dad still has to print out her mail so she can write a response, and we need to run 8 layers of virus protection because she will click on ANYTHING (and I can't talk dad into running linux)

$150 for a dumbphone? No thanks. When my free phone from AT&T broke and I wasn't eligible for another freebie, I got one of those prepaid phones at Walmart and just put my sim card in it.

When you can still find Nokia E71's for about that much or less, I would much rather have a new (or "new") E71. There are things about that phone that I still prefer to my iPhone 4.

You'll need to log in to post.
