The existence of such a rule wouldn't mean they won't let you park a Fiat Multipla on the property as you might've expected, but it does mean they wouldn't let you keep a car with a mild scratch and dent on the property, as this guy who didn't read the fine print found out:
https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2019/01/apartment-complex-goes-to-war-over-dented-chevy/
The trend also isn't starting with high-end gated communities as you might've expected, but at the bottom of the market where cosmetic fixes to your car are about as important and attainable as cosmetic fixes to your body.
This same property owner has towed away a car painted two different colors, so '80s-tastic two-tone factory paint, or partially blacked-out bodywork as seen on many modern supercars, are presumably not allowed. Harlequin paint jobs are clearly right out.

Four days into the new year and we have an HOA thread already?
Must be a record.
I hate HOA... However, I am building a home in a community that has 2! ![crying crying](https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/static/ckeditor/ckeditor/plugins/smiley/images/cry_smile.png)
If they weren't forced to move there, I don't see the problem.
If you don't read the rules of the HOA, then retroactively have an issue, I don't see the problem.
If you don't want to deal with an HOA, then don't move into a community with an HOA.
This is not quantum physics.

Good thing you dumped those piles on stampie a couple years ago
....... and this is why I live where I live.
In reply to z31maniac :
Exactly. Read the fine print before signing the mortgage papers.

Concur. I had a lady who didn’t want grids in her windows. HOA rule grids. Would have been an extra $400 or so. HOA ruled against her, then she paid me right around that much to come back and put on vinyl tape grids from the inside to give those outside the illusion of conformity that they require
In reply to Patrick :
At that point I would have asked you to put the tape grids diagonal, just to annoy the HOA

Except that it isn't a mortgage, it is a low-end apartment complex. Obviously I haven't seen the lease so I don't know what was signed, but it seems pretty low. What is the timeline? What if you're waiting on insurance to come through? What constitutes a dent? How much rust is too much rust?
The dent in question:
![](https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/Screen-Shot-2019-01-04-at-12.13.22-PM-e1546622516672-610x351.png)
Ultimately you are, of course, correct. They signed the lease, there is nothing to stand on here for the dented-car-dude. But still a E36 M3ty situation.
EDIT: Really that looks like most of it should buff out. I'd imagine that if it had been buffed out immediately, or soon after the incident, nothing would have come of this.
In reply to mtn :
That's the issue I had with this story. What constitutes presentable hasn't been outlined by the news outlets, or the apartment in their defense, which leads me to believe there is no actual definition in the contract either. Thus, judgment and enforcement become completely arbitrary as the clause is setup to be abused.
I understand not wanting inop vehicles to be stored on the grounds, but a dent?

Yup. Of course, it could be outlined clearly in the lease--we don't know. And I do understand why its there, and why many people would want to live in a place with that rule.
I have always considered myself to be a bit of an ass. Reading news stories like this make me realize I'm actually a really nice person. Probably one of the nicest.
Frankly, that's pretty terrifying.
What did the new Civic do to that HOA to deserve this?

It doesn’t even matter if you do or not. HOA is ALWAYS adding some new bullE36 M3 update to their list. Most recent rule that just started last year in my neighborhood was that you could no longer have your boat trailer or any kind of trailer on your driveway. They said to keep it in your garage. That’s what it is for they say plus it “beautifies” the neighborhood and increase property values.
My only problem is at what point does it become “We see you haven’t washed your vehicle this week and you know it’s a 3 times a week rule around here..”. Starts to remind me of the slippery slope of “pieces of flair” from Office Space....
A fresh wash and an afternoon with a polisher and rubbing compound would hide 80% of the “violation”...

Is there a "Board of Directors" that make these rules? Can you become a member of said board to give a vote? Can you campaign to other neighbors on why something should or shouldn't be allowed to added or removed?
I don't know, I'm asking. I would imagine things like that are in the original HOA agreement that was signed.
In which I revert to, if you didn't read the fine print and just accepted it........

Apparently you haven't actually seen a new civic. That or you have and are still suffering from the after effects of looking at it, usually temporary blindness and extreme nausea.

Now we just need Hitler.
We've already mentioned HOAs, many in these threads are apparently run by his offspring.
What if you autocross and get a cone mark on the car?
Well, nevermind, autocross isnt real racing anyway.
In reply to wvumtnbkr :
So.... if you auto-x and tow it with a Ridgeline, does that mean you're towing your non-racecar with your non-truck?

But the head of your HOA says that all cars have to fit in the garage.
I've never even lived inside city limits so these threads make me genuinely scared of arguments with my neighbors when I finally move. My daily is probably cause for being shot on sight based on these rules.

Have you seen the new Civic? Visually, its a crime against nature.
