Stumbled across a '99 XJ, 4.0, auto, 2-door, garage kept w/ 13K original miles coming to public auction. Details were few and pics appeared as stored but dusty yet. KBB value was vague at $2910 and NADA w/ that low mileage was $4700. I entered vehicle options as mid-range like a/c, cruise, p/w, p/locks just to get in the ballpark. Most every XJ in this area needs floor pan or box frame work.

XJ's have a huge fan base here, I 'spose this vehicle will draw lots of the Jeep crowd as well as dealers... if they're on to it. Not much other shop or mechanical stuff listed to draw that kinda crowd either. Didn't appear well advertised in the Sunday paper but any regular auction followers oughta be keen on this one.

I've scored tons of tools and equipment being at the right auction at the right time but never bought a vehicle... yet. I have a non-running high mile '98 w/ 5-speed that oughta be an easy swap... I suppose. Correct me if there are any major trans swap issues between a '98 and a '99.

I'd prolly go tops at $4500-5500 if it's optioned well and that clean and rust free, am I even close at that price or am I nuts? I know vehicle details are vague and who's who in the crowd matters but just for the helluvofit what's the auction price gonna be for those that BTDT? Also, any issues w/ the auto to 5-speed conversion?

I could always keep my hands in my pockets FTM.

I've said before, there's no XJ for sale worth more that $4K, I guess a cherry survivor with that low mileage might sway me to $4.5K. What trim is it, 4x4?

Moby is an '01, limited, 4x4, and was ~$2500, but needed a evap core, and had over 200K miles, but was a unique trim/options combo, I'd been searching for, for 9 months, so I didn't let the mileage scare me off.

4X4 yea. Probably a SE from least of what I can see but could be a Sport w/ some options FTM. So, cloth seats, air, tilt, cruise, maybe pw, pdl if I'm lucky. Mileage equals < 800 miles/ year so prolly needs maintenance if sitting long period of time. I'd just DD it and get to the trans swap later, maybe a mild lift.

4500-5K would be a bargain for that IF it's clean and a 4X4 2 door.

Clean it and fix any issues and put it on BAT and it would be a 8-9K sale easy.

I don't see many 4x4 two doors. I think that may up the price a bit.

That's what I was thinking as well. I had an '85 Sport 2-door 5-speed that I loved. Thing about auctions is ya never know the crowd.
