Once put Yeager and his entire crew on house arrest cause they were being drunk and disorderly.

Had a Golden Caterpillar Club pin.

His co-pilot didn't want to bail out.  Grandpop had to basically put his foot on his head and kick him out.  Afterwards he bitched at Grandpop about messing up his best hat.

I saw that eBay listing.  It is frustrating that it was so recent.

Remembered another story.  At Grandpop's memorial service ('02, I think) a woman came up to Dad and told him about Grandpop's non-involvement with the Doolittle Raid.

Her husband and Grandpop were both stationed at Langley Field, Va.  After Pearl Harbor the USAAF put out a call for volunteers for what would become the Doolittle Raid and her husband stood up for it.  Not sure how Grandpop had the authority at the time, but he had the ability to approve or deny.  She had recently found out she was pregnant and asked Grandpop to deny the request because she was afraid he wouldn't come back from it.  So Grandpop did.  She had the kid, he came back from the war.  Long long after she told him about what she had asked of Grandpop and he was piiiiiiisssssssseeeddd at both of them.
