My Toyota highlander drivers window seems to want to keep going up at the top, stopping with a healthy bang. I noticed it also seems not to go down all the way (by about 1/4"). I'm currently interrupting the auto up cycle near the top and deliberately inching it closed to prevent this. 
 

I've replaced regulators in other cars and could order and install a new one but I wonder if anyone has encountered this and can suggest a GRM solution. Do they ever just get lost and have the ability to re-learn?

Usually travel is limited by limit switches. The fact that it's not going down as far as it should and that it's coming up too far sounds like a gear has slipped on a shaft or similar when the window was being lowered.

No problems, this guy is pretty annoying, but his strip down and explanation of the motor is decent.

FRS is famous for this. Mine has had all kind of interesting self learned interpretations of what is up down or open. Ussually caused by ice-frozen resitance to opening.

 

On the FRS rolling the window down and holding for a few seconds re-sets the system. Might be a similar thing in your case. Dealer is very nice about this, they only charge $50 to do it for you.

..this seems like the culprit since the motor is fine and the track doesn't bind. When I replaced the battery it must have gotten a little lost.

If the window is tipping out of the track near the bottom - does this mean the scissor/regulator assembly is worn out?

(passenger side does not do this)

That seems wrong.  If you put the window about halfway up, can you rock it fore and aft more than the other side?

Could be a damaged regulator, or it might have come loose from the door.

Both sides are about the same when I hold the glass and rock it at half way up.

DS glass gets down near the bottom and tips forward. Seems like the regulator is worn out so I think I will order a new one.

I'd pop the door panel off first and make sure it's not just loose where it bolts to the door.

High five to you Streetwiseguy!

After some YouTube research I removed the interior door panel and found that one of the two bolts that hold the bottom of the regulator was..missing.

It apparently backed out after nine years. I found the bolt in the bottom of the door cavity and put it back.. and this one is fixed.

You are welcome.  I might have seen that once or a hundred times through my career.

You can actually raise a glass to 240 Volvos, because that's where at least 50% of the loose ones were.
