A friend pulled this part from his 1987 Monte Carlo SS and does not know what it is or where it goes back? (Or if it is important?) He thinks it is a brace? Thanks in advance for any help in identifying it. T

Yeah, what he said. Clean, not too heavy, and the way the holes look, makes me think interior fastener.
Without any scale to go by except hardwood floor...
Could be an under-dash type bracket. radio, etc.
I am pretty sure it goes under the ashtray, I think I screwed my CB on to a bracket that looks like that
i'd guess somewhere in the middle of the dash, in the vicinity of the radio.. it probably keeps the dash from dancing all over the place...
Ashtray, radio or console.
If the car looks okay right now, works okay right now and sounds okay right now then I would throw that thing away... right now.

i think the only G bodies that got the brace behind the seat were some Grand Prix models and the GNX... and it was a big stamped piece that went from one side of the car to the other that was welded in.
I think it supported the back of the giant factory stereo, which I'm guessing he replaced at some point.
