Painting the bike soon. It is currently 2-tone red; kinda cherry and wine. I want to do a similar thing with blue. The dark part I have decided on Stormy Blue Mica from Mazda. I want to pick a lighter blue to go with it. I don't want a super huge contrast, so not like "dusty robin egg blue" or "powder blue" but something one shade lighter than the middle.
For reference: Stormy blue mica:
And here is what the bike currently looks like (not mine, but similar):
Winning metallic blue from mazda? Its the rx8 blue.
Montego Blue. The best Miata color
I'm a big fan of my Phantom Blue Mica Rx-8:
(Not mine, random image returned from searching for "Phantom Blue Mica." )
It may be too close to stormy blue, though.
I like the Winning Blue. The Ford Velocity blue might work if I add a little mica or metallic
black, gold, silver, or charcoal. two blues, without stark contrast, is gonna be difficult.
Nah. I have a pretty keen eye for colors. As long as you're in the same hue/tint range and just basically changing shades, it works just fine. No harder than red or yellow.
Two shades of blue work well together, but for this application I had to have obvious contrast so the judges could pick me out easily on the track.
My dad painted me in my driving colors, about 1980.

Funny part about that.... My paint jobs often turn out looking like I did it with crayon. I painted something and took it to show my body guy and he said, "did you paint that with a hershey bar?"
I know you said lighter but the second I saw the original blue I thought it would look great with Ford's Deep Wedgewood Blue

I cannot paint metal for E36 M3. Wall of a house? Sure. Easter egg? Sure. Fender? berkeley no.
I remember doing a little rust repair on my HS GF's Stanza. I did it bloody right. I cut out the rusty part, welded in new, ground the welds, put on a skim coat of bondo, sanded it with a long foamboard, closed my eyes and felt for the lows and highs, did a scratch coat of paint for the final sanding to see lows and highs.... then shot a coat of paint on it and it looked like a 5 year old had fixed it with Play-Doh.
Fortunately, I'm hopeful with this bike. It's already straight. No bondo involved. Plus, it's not a wonderful collectible priceless bike that needs to retain top value. It's a 99 Kawasaki that is worth $2500 and I haven't even washed it for 5 years. It has mildew that started growing on it in my wet garage in Pittsburgh, so that was 6 years ago.
I like blue-silver, perhaps it's over done. Use a black, purple or something separation pin striping? Our local NAPA store mixes paint, go find one near you that does and grab some color charts. Remember it looks different in UV, vs sun, vs shade, vas LED light.
I would google Foose built cars and see how he contrasted colors, some were surprising combinations that seem to work. How about a fade in lieu of sharp separation?
Yeah, you thought this was going to be easy......
Amateur painter, so I imagine a fade would be more than I want to tackle at this point. I'll be lucky if it's shiny and doesn't have drips.
I will definitely hit some paint stores and try matching colors. I also saw a bike yesterday that was a dark blue like the Stormy Mazda color, but the contrast was an even darker blue that looked nearly black if it hadn't been for the silver metallic showing blue in the clearcoat.

I have no idea what it's called but I've seen some bitchin' shades of blue on various Toyotas of late.
2 shades of blue would look good together. Separate the 2 shades with either a very dark midnight blue or a light robins egg blue pinstripe and it would look great. Contrast between the blues would set it off.
But then I'm no artist and not really that good at color contrasting so take it like a grain of salt.
Hmmm.... also just discovered the beauty of Lexus Indigo Ink mica.
