OK, the TR7 has gone to live or die with Mr. Schumacher (Ted that is) and I now have a 2008 Vette sitting in the  garage.  So the Triumph 7 name doesn't really fit anymore, whatcha' got?

I feel like cars can come and go, but my screen name is forever.

Only banks and other businesses that have been busted for unscrupulous dealings change their names and hope the public forgets.  Mostly, it works.

Besides, triumph7 is an appealing name with a lot of positive history.

I've built four signficant vehicles since completing my Locost 7, but I'm keeping the avatar because it's an appealing pic to me, and has lots of positive history.

Still have the car though, so that's a bit different.

I came in here to say the same.  I like your current screen name, and suggest you keep it.

(also, you better NEVER change you avatar pic, It's hilarious and I always chuckle everytime I see your posts)

So when you buy another car we have to learn another new guy?  If I changed my name (still have a 914) every time I bought a car,  I would never get past New Reader!

I succumbed to the idea of using a name I'd answer to on the street, but I'm not against "traditional" usernames.

The Corvette thing is too common to anchor on, though, I think. I mean, a TR7 reference doesn't have a lot of same-names. And with 'vettes all I want to do is stuff like NewBalanceDude or WhiteSox... (and I mean that in the playful-ribbing sense; Corvettes are pretty rad, and while I don't think I'll get around to one, I'm not entirely averse)

Ponder other specifics of your automotive persona?

I'm also agreed with the folks saying that a name change isn't necessary, and there's a downside, but it's not like we won't catch up eventually...

I also vote for keep it.
I did mine on a whim, since I found the site by googling for a Grand-Ma-Quise question, and joins just to ask about a sway bar.
I'll keep it for convenience.

Also, plan on having a panther around till I can't drive anymore. Or past then!

I started with jrw1621.  Initials and address at the time.  It was an AOL email suggestion that seemed like it'd work fine for this fad called the Internet .

But, then I went to The Challenge making this virtual GRM thing an actual thing.  People cant address you by alphanumeric, at least not easily.

Before I went back for my second Challenge I morphed to JohnRW1621.  At least it had an addressable name in it while still being evolutionary so as to not loose full identity.

I later dropped the letter number scramble and went straight name.

But, while making these changes I made sure to keep the same avatar, which was unique, so as to remain recognizable.

Perhaps try a similar plan.  Wholesale change of name and avatar makes you appear brand new, and that's fine if you want a complete rebirth.

Buy a basket case Triumph motorcycle as a reason to keep the name.  And keep the 7 because it might take that long to finish it.

And because of some nice comments above....

And, yes, the avatar is staying as long as I'm around!

Another thing, when I scroll I look at images next to a name; it pops faster in my 1 Meg memory faster than text.
