AA batteries got left in Longacre scales and have corroded the wire leads from the battery holder to the actual board. The battery holder itself seems to be pretty easy to find a replacement for, just flat (6) AA, but I would like to replace the connector that plugs onto the board as well and I am out of my element trying to identify it.

Any help from pics alone? (And yes, my fingernails could be cleaner.) Punching the numbers from the connector into Google didn't get me what I was hoping, but probably because I don't even know the generic term for it other than "connector", much less where you'd buy it.

Also have a call into Longacre to see if I can just buy the whole thing already epoxied to the aluminum for what I'm sure is a premium, but haven't heard back yet. A call to their out of warranty service place yielded (a site unseen, I understand) quote of "$299, hopefully less".

That is a very standard 2-pin IDC connector and is actually removable from the wire. You see how there's a sort of ramp leading to the wires in the back of the connector? They're just sort of pressed in there with a tool - any blunt narrow tool will work - and the connector pierced the insulation and makes the electrical connection for you as part of it. You don't strip the wire at all when inserting it. You can take the existing wires out by holding the plastic connector firmly in one hand and pulling the wires out with the other. Then press the new wires in using something like a plastic poking/prodding tool or nylon pry tool. If all else fails you can buy a new one here:

I'm sure there are a million other sources too.

I forgot to mention: check the pitch, the space between the pins, measured from pin center to pin center, but .100" is very standard. It's probably that.

It just shows a little corrosion...figured better to replace.

Thanks for the link!

Spray it out with some CAIG De-Ox-It and get back to weighing things.

The negative lead is corroded clean off of the battery "spring", and positive looks close behind. Would need to solder new leads on after I cleaned things up, and new battery holders are all of $4, so that doesn't seem worth it.

Have placed an order with Digikey. Give me a week and hopefully I'll post my triumphant victory.
