I can't take any more pics and keep getting a message that says "Storage almost full". It says I can correct the problem in the settings but apparently I cant. I've deleted almost all my pics and music and only have a few apps and a Tetris game. How do I fix this so I can take pics again, I saw a schnauzer wearing little Chuck Taylor's and a ball cap on a skateboard and I couldnt send a pic to the wife and ask why our dog isn't that cool.
A little trick I learned to free up space-
Go to iTunes store, find the longest HD movie you see and try to download it. It will fail to download but magically free up more space on the phone. I'm guessing the iPhone empties the equivalent of the Recycle Bin when attempted.
If you go to the Settings app and go to General->Storage & iCloud Usage-> Manage Storage you can see what your used space is, available space, and how much space each application is taking up and use that as a guide to try and free up more space (i.e., what to delete and clean up). Some apps are pretty big, other times you can have a LOT of pictures and videos in the Messages app if you send/receive a lot, so you have to regularly go and purge them to clear up space.

Do you have it automatically backing up your pictures to iCloud? I think that is the default, so if you didn't change it, it probably is. iCloud storage is limited so maybe that is full.

How do you pull pictures out of iCloud (or off the phone) without either thinking it needs to add them back?
That was the problem I had. It thought that when I removed pictures from the phone that it had "lost a photo" and iCloud, being so nice, replaced it. Only I didn't need it do that.
Also when you "delete" photos it doesn't actually delete them. You'll need to go down to the "Deleted Photos" folder and REALLY delete them manually, otherwise it holds them for 30 days.
Ashyukun brought up a good point too. All the photos you've sent or received via text are stored in the phone and need to be deleted separately.
Old text threads take up a surprising amount of space as well. I discovered that one with my brother (with lots of pictures) was nearly 2 gigs.
Or pony up and get a 64 gig phone, this thing is ridiculous! All the memory problems I had with the old 16 gig 4s are gone.
The kid at the Apple store was right. This thing is beyond me. I have no idea if anything is on the cloud. Any pics I wanted to keep are on a hard drive most of the rest just go to facebook to annoy my family and coworkers and get deleted. Now I feel like I have homework.
I actually use Google photos to back up the photos on the phones and iPad, but the ability to free up space is a nice touch.
ICloud storage is great, but limited, unless you pay for it. I turned off photo backup there and only have backing up a little content, like notes and links. I use Google to backup and manage our contacts and our Photos and our email.
According to my account I have nothing saved to the iCloud
