I went to take the dog for a walk this evening and came across a mystery: 
Yes, five chrome-plated grates placed across the end our driveway.
I texted our neighbor. "I gotta come see this," he replied.
They weren't there when my wife left in the morning. We have security cams, but I haven't gone through the footage yet.
But who? Why? How? Kids being kids? If so, where did they grab them? It's not a common thing to find out in the trash.
And anyone need some chrome-plated grates?
They look like oven racks.

Yup, I have the exact (well, without a tape measure I'm not positive) ones in my oven
I measured them: 25x18 inches. (Give or take as I did this in the dark.)
I have zero clue but I'm following so I can see the outcome.

The racks are now next to the end of the driveway. I'm about to take out the trash and recycling.

The placements seem intentionally spaced but the orientations of the racks seem random.
Odd. I'm not sure what that means, if anything.
Someone thought you could use sacrificial racks for home powder coating.

One upside down just to see if a passerby is OCD enough to turn it over, as a sociological experiment?
My money's on someone you know doing some sort of (im)practical joke. But still mostly baffled.

I have not seen a oven with that many baking racks in one. Is there a used appliance store nearby?
It's migration season for oven racks. Those are the young who couldn't keep up with the flock and needed a rest.
This is the kind of stuff I do myself, forget about it and then get really confused.
