had to break out the side by side and picked up women and children only and took them home until it got to dark and cold.

yes sir, and single digit temps for a few days, people traped in their cars some for more than 24 hours
ATL is just stealing all the attention.
Although... this is a great way for me to advertise Snow Day Bugout Bags.

Are those folks in the ice races using ice/snow tires? Or studs?
In reply to mtn:
One of the long time Elantra guys had been running cheapo all-seasons for the ice racing he did. This year he finally put on some snow tires.
Keep in mind places like B'ham are pretty hilly, have zero road clearing capability, and most cars have summer tires. Also, most people do not have any experience driving in those conditions as it happens once every decade or two. It's not something they remotely plan for.
Holy late model junkyard, Batman! That's a pileup! Looks like it is going to really pay to be a bodyman in Alabama in the next few weeks.

What is this thing you speak of?

those people have a bit of tire advantage …. these don't work all that well for the rest of the yr

the ice racing i watched 2 weekends ago didn't have anything like that- in fact, no one was running studs at all.. the quickest car out there was a little VW running skinny and tall all season tires of some sort- he was blowing past the other cars that were running Blizzaks in the fwd class.. this was oval racing, not road racing... but there was only snow on the front stretch with nothing but glorious smooth MN lake ice in the turns and back stretch..

Yep. That is something a lot of folks don't consider. Here in the willamette valley we simply don't have the infrastructure for snow. We have zero snowplows. Ours streets are heavily crowned to shed all the rainwater we get and unless you are an avid skier you never even consider purchasing winter tires. The 8" of snow we got 2 months ago and following -8 temps shut the area down for a week. Semi trucks were sliding sideways off the road from dead a stop.

Both,Two classes
Stuck in cars for 24 hours? When does walking to a house start to seem like a reasonable solution. There can't be too many places where they're more than a mile or so from habitation.

The all seasons ,most likely, were tractioinized.

you would be surprised..........
Advanced ice driving technique: Put two tires in the snowy and/or muddy ditch where they'll have some grip. Proceed slowly, avoid left turns.

Tougher in towns with curbs & gutter everywhere. Gutter is filled with snow that melted then re-froze.. Smooth as silk.

Depends on how cute he is. I mean, who doesn't want to be murdered by a handsome stranger?
