People survived before Internet, so once one adjusts to reading books printed on paper the lack of Internet could be relaxing.

I'm not sure there is. Which one are we talking about? The one on Lake Michigan doesn't have any power to the island.

Are these still run on whale oil? Gasoline or propane? LP generator? Private utility to the island; whatever that could mean? Probably in more recent times, solar.
