I prefer they keep their filthy mits off my back and just go for the mouth hug. Happy Beginning, middle and end.

Birks I can stand all day. If you don't want to look like Jesus, they have actual closed shoes. They feel like a berkeleying foot massage after standing in anything else.
Birks are amazing when you get your feet back under you. Bought a cheap pair of shoes once and they screwed my feet up so bad I couldn't walk for 2 days. Now it's Redwing's or nothing. I've got 2 pair the steel toes are showing on and I switch them out when a pair gets wet, funky....... etc. My wife wears Birkenstocks and doesn't whine near as much about her back pain (she's a nurse). Good luck, when my feet hurt I get homicidal.
I have a set of Vibram manufactured Wolverines that I am wearing today, while I am still in pain it is 1/10th of what I have been in over the last three. I also took Aleve at 6am and have had zero caffeine and just water and my fruit and yogurt breakfast. I will see how today pans out.

Are you saying you shouldn't physically run long distances with them? I was an 8 mile daily with the occasional 12-15 with the normal shoes. Is it ok to mix them up with normal shoes?flountown wrote: They just released the New Balance Minimus, I have a pair of Nike Free Run and I love them. The Minimus looks cooler though. I plan on getting a pair of Vibrams in the next week since I have a Tough Mudder Event coming up in less than 3 weeks, and jumping into water with shoes freaked me out last time, so Five Fingers it is.I'd be real careful with doing serious activities without a serious breaking in of your legs to the Five Fingers. You don't want to pull a calf muscle. Took me about two weeks to get to a point where I was ok doing 5Ks in them. Blistered a bit more past that, but eventually I was doing blister-free 10Ks in them. Of course I've been on a 6 month "I hate running" streak right now, so I'll probably have to start the whole process over.
Not a distance runner. However, I've had no problem with whatever distance I've chosen to run, after a month-long "break in" period.
I'd get the socks for serious distance, I was fighting blisters longer than muscle adaptation.
Since spring is never going to get warm try to find something to stand on if you're going to be outside for a while to seperate you from the concrete. I try to find a piece of thick plywood or break down a heavy cardboard box for insulation. It's not alot but on a bad day every little bit helps.
