Would it be corny if i copied this paint scheme, or is imitation the purest form of flattery?
I don't know why, but i think this looks so cool.

I think the question is "How many examples can I find in Google Image search." If you find a couple of pages, it may be time to think different.
John Deer Blitz Black. You can do it cheap.
Voyeurism brought me here. Curiosity got the best of me.
From what I hear, that car was an absolute hulk. However, I have always thought it looked damn good.
I say copy away!

Nice Chrysler wheels on that Rabbit. In fact those are early Omni GLH wheels. Of course the early (78-80) Omni used a VW 1.7 or a Peugot 1.6L motor. Which is weird since the GLH was originally going to be called the Coyote (they chase Rabbits) and the performance goals were to outdo the GTi by 10%. Just didnt have the styling. Car business is just strange since now Chrysler is selling minivans to VW to put Routan badges on them.

Many thanks for all the compliments. You would have to thank Photoshop for the way it looks. The way it looked in person was turrible (previous owner painted it), i tried to touch it up.
TIP: Use Krylon Satin Black for Plastics

Cool... i just like the white roof and mirrors for some reason.
Any idea how many cans of that paint i'd need for a similar-sized car? Will it spray without being real streaky? Hold up to elements?
Or should i just look at John Deer Blitz Black?

This please. And spraying it on with a real gun is a must.
In my area there are probably 300 cars that have been rattle canned flat black. Anything older than 1976 has steel wheels rattle canned red. Most of the modern cars have matching flat black wheels. Every single one looks like total E36 M3e! Streaky, zebra striped paintjobs that all chalk up after a few months. It is a terrible fad that I really hope will go away very soon.
That said every once in a while you will see a car properly done in Blitz Black and your jaw drops at how smooth it looks.
This golf was painted in a weekend for less than $100. Blitz black from the tractor store, HF paint gun and some sandpaper. The paint still looks great 2 years on.
Makes me wish I had a car that I want to paint. But if I did, I would end up doing this.
Maybe time for a new thread...

I was thinking the Jeep.
Ok, no really... the MX6.
yeah flat black is the thing to do in the VW scene......that's because they have no imagination and style, that's why when you go to the shows you'll see at least 10 cars, for example, a MKII with flat black paint, stretched/poked BBS's or CCW's and the rest is E36 M3...oh and PBR cans littered in the interior.
I miss my MKII though
I berkeleying hate it when people pile on with the "Yeah bruh! Paint it flat black!!!" Nonsense. Flat = grey. Looks like a $hit primer job. Rustoleum semi-gloss black through a $20 harbor freight gun isn't bad. Unless you're just gussying it up for the demolition derby, PLEASE don't rattlecan it.

Semi-gloss/satin is what i'd like to accomplish.
I'll have to take good pics of the current paint, though... a rattlecan job would be a huge improvement.
Stumbled on this while painting the old XJ. Mil-spec flat black + medium or high gloss wet look hardener = a nice looking Satin Black. It's only reminding of the flat black primer look at night (kinda stealthy) and looks great in the light. I shot acrylic enamel. Cheap, and easy to touch up.
