I have a bunch of Hi8 tapes I really should transfer over to digital. With the groundhog predicting several more weeks of winter, now is a good time for this. Anyone have first hand experience in doing this? Any points, tips etc would be much appreciated. I've been looking at the El-Gato capture device. CNET seems to have given good reviews to it. I'm not yet set on this if there is a better quality DIY device out there. User friendliness is a factor I don't need something requiring 24 different steps when it can be done in a lot less. I'm going to keep everything stored on 1 or 2T external storage.
