Friend of mine got hit while sampling some of the local adult beverages. Has security cam video, but so far, the local PD is not being terribly helpful. Any GRMers got any brilliance to shine on the vid so we can find this clown?

Yeah, 1700$ in damage, and that's just to replace the door itself. The mirror, the trim, all the paneling on the inside, hell even the WEATHERSTRIPPING is being reused. Mazda doors is expensive, apparently.

I hate to say it, but driving a nice vehicle to a bar is almost always a bad idea. Bars, strip clubs, concerts, sporting events: all good reasons for a crappy DD or a taxi.

definatly on the taxi. When I used to drive my uncle around after his second DUI, we used to stop after work in his old beat up work van. The bar parking lots were ALWAYS small and crowded and full of work trucks and vans.. getting in and out was a bear

OK, CCTV is my business. That is a decent camera system, fairly sharp images, BUT, the angle is all wrong to get a plate shot for good ID. Plate shots generally require a specialized camera, mounted down low. It was a digital recording, not a video tape, so that is good. A good forensics tech MIGHT be able to enhance the video enough to get the plate, but again, the angle is bad. What you see CSI and NCIS do on TV is not realistic, at least for bar parking lots. Interestingly enough, some of the best enhancement work is done by Disney for law enforcement, for free. Or, so I hear.

CCTV ain't my business. But, what you have posted there is coming across here as an adobe flash video, maybe 300x150 pixels resolution? Plus all the compression that adobe dumped onto it. The plate would only be a few pixels tall/wide and you're not going to have enough resolution with that to pull anything useful out. Now, that also appears to be some type of screen capture thing and not the raw video or still frames. Get a copy of the raw video or stills and you will find them to be of much better resolution, perhaps good enough to run some enhancement on and pull up the plate.

This is related to what I do at my job. I do digital media transfer. I've had a few guys come in with home surveillance footage hoping to get our help with vandalism to their property. I wasn't able to help them much the video quality just wasn't there, and we don't have any enhancement software. But, if there video quality is good enough I can see what I can do. You can email the raw footage to me at griffin729@gmail.com

My truck just got hit today while i was at the hospital. I wasnt there more than a few minutes just getting some last minute immunizations before i deploy. Some dickless berkeley hit the drivers side rear flare and drove away. Luckily the fiberglass held up and it looks like its only paint transfer and it was going to the body shop anyways when i deploy but i was still pretty upset when i came out and saw it.

Amazing how you can work so hard keeping something nice and in a literal instant all your work was for nothing. Someone had to come along who doesnt give a E36 M3 and wreck it for you.

Its amazing how bad people are at parking. I have seen alot of smashed cars at the college I go to, and alot more with people coming very close to hitting the car next to them. One time I saw a saturn someone had broken every plastic panel down the side then just left.

I took two hit-and-runs at university...and I know who did both of them. One was a distinctive teal truck that left distinctive teal paint (broke the headlight on an old E36 M3mobile I used to have), the other was a Vitara driver (Vitara drivers are often idiots) when turned too early pulling out next to me and scraped my front bumper, as I expected, but I had no choice but to park there.

I witnessed another hit-and-run. Some girls pulling out in a late-model Corolla hit an Opel Corsa so hard that it popped into the air. They got out, frantically said "It's OK!" and drove off.

It looks like the Volvo douches and the Escalade driver are friends. Maybe post screen grabs at the local businesses (bars) to see if someone recognizes the vehicles.

Doc Hess- There will not be any raw video. The recorder compresses incoming video before it records. Save hard drive space that way. It only slightly degrades the image, but you get major pixelation if you blow it up much. Nature of the beast. Some of the new cameras function at 5 mega pixels. You can enlarge those fantastically. If that video had been from one of those cameras, you would have the plate shot.

You'll need to log in to post.
