Totally not the best out there for the buck, but how ubiquitous is this tech going to be if they are already in this sort of mass production.
I still need to break into JG's garage to try out his Solidoodle

I have access to a 3D scanner. Like spinning lasers and E36 M3. So if you want a scan of something...
Yeah not a great deal but it shows how popular they're becoming...really want one to prototype a CoP deck and ITB adapter in ABS for my 4AGE. Once I know they'll work I'll get them redone in Ultem for safety.
I thought a prototyping machine that uses wax would be cool because you could go straight to investment casting and get a useable part out of it.
Print the three-dimensional things made from ABS / PLA
English Manual/Spec Yes
Not encouraged that the second thing is well supported by the first.
[sigh!] Don't have one.....really want one. I can't justify the price, though, when all I really want to make are hare shaped door pulls. It would be fun to print a bunch of GRM ornaments for my christmas tree, though.

Is a bear Catholic? No, wait, I got that wrong...
I'd love one to play with.
I was looking into the file formats and importing/exporting... there might be a couple of hoops to jump through. It might be a couple of weeks for the scan to happen.
For a scanner, look into the Next Engine scanners, they're the easiest to use on the market and the best price point short of going completely DIY. If you need any help, lemme know, I play with CMM & reverse engineering a lot :)
We have a Faro Focus3d scanner and I just noticed they have a free app for using the Kinect or Asus version as a scanner.

The Focus3ds are great! But they're probably pricier than someone who's buying a <$1000 STL machine wants to drop :)
That's a cool project for the Kinect, I wonder if the Faro software driving it gives better results than I've seen before, not very high tolerance to say the least :)
So do any of you guys know someone down under who has a portable scanner? I would really like to be able to find someone down there who can scan this skull
I have an unused Kinect sitting on a shelf here. I'm going to try Scenect out and see what kind of results it does produce.
Then I'm going to "find" one in someone's garage and hope they don't mind me using it
How durable are the pieces these things print out? Not thinking engine parts but interior racecar parts that need to be light and fit into funny spaces.
