Holy E36 M3 i have an interview on the other side of the country!

Well I can't say I thought my resume was that good but a "brown" company wanted to set up an interview in a week for a job in Seattle!!!

Excited as hell, IDK yet if its in person and or Phone/Skype (waiting on the e-mail from HR, but will keep up dated.)

The questions I have for the GRM trust is who among you have done cross country interviews (this will be my 1st) how and or where do I begin aside from looking for cheap as hell flights and hostels/back alleys to sleep in.

Is there any GRM folk in the seattle area want a case of flying dog/yuengling/natty boh in exchange for a couch to sleep on?

Help GRM I'm like an excited little dog trying not to piss on everything!!

I've used Spirit to book last minute tickets to go buy a car. Pretty stinking cheap.

They won't cover the cost to fly you in? The one time I had to be in person for a cross-country interview, they paid for flights, a hotel and a rental car.

Ha, and I lasted a few months there before hanging it up, too. Which isn't at all what I hoped for.

Spirit is unfortunately not a help (no flights from Baltimore area to Portland in my time frame) but will keep them in mind for later dates.

I applied to the job, not the other way around.

Now I can write off the expenses for this year if I do get the job so no harm overall.

I'm with Pres on this one, any distance interviewing I've ever done has been on their dime whether I applied or they head hunted me.

Same for me. Flight to Chicago, hotel, etc paid by inquiring company. Of course, this interview was not our first contact. There was phone interviewing that happened first.

I interviewed Chicago to Detroit and Chicago to Minneapolis for the metal hose shop. This summer I flew Chicago to Houston and back in one day. They paid for the flight dollars.

I got stuck paying my $15 parking fee. (JK)

if you mean that Brown home delivery service.. something to keep in mind. Once you work for them you can -never- transfer to a different location. They simply do not allow you to do that. Go to work for them in Seattle, you are stuck in Seattle until you quit, retire, or get fired

Just to add further to this, if they are making you pay, they aren't that interested. Who WOULDN'T do an interview with someone who was willing to pay for their own flights?

That's super cool of them to even consider interviewing someone on the opposite side of the country, but it doesn't guarantee you a job.

I'd be more excited by a Skype interview first as it takes less time and money that I might not get back. If they wanted to meet me after the initial interview I'd be on cloud nine. It pretty much guarantees you've got the job if you're getting a second interview.

Some employers are blind to potential hire locations. Others seem to focus on it only.

This is one of many reasions the GRM hive is awesome! Would have never throught to ask that.

It is that brown company and it's for a mechanics position so Idk if that might change the dynamic

Again this is something I've not had to do before so this is why I come to you guys!

if the company is legit, and want you to move across the country for the job, they'll pay your travel costs to get there and interview. especially if this is a "big" company, if its the "brown" that i'm thinking of.
