So the time has come in my remodel project to move the furnace. This means unhooking the A/C lines from the evaporator. I don't know if the system is charged. There are ports out side at the condensor. Should I just push on the scharders and vent it out? The tags say 150-300psi!! Local A/C guy wants $400. Sounds nuts to me....

Find another A/C guy, don't vent it to the atmosphere.

Sounds high to me too. I'd shop around some.

you can check it to see if it's charged by pushing in one of the valves with a screwdriver.. if nothing comes out, then start unhooking.

Can you put up an ad on a bulletin board at a local vocational school? There are probaby some apprentices who would do this for cheap.
