So since the stove from Frigidaire turned out to be a piece of E36 M3 that could heat up enough to make the house stink but not melt cheese after an hour at 375, I'm stove shopping again.

Currently eyeballing a Samsung. This one specifically

What's the deal with their appliances these days? I see lots and lots of overpriced over technology loaded E36 M3, then see this simple oven, so I'm a little confused on what to expect.

Any other brands I'm missing that aren't Hot Point or GE?

I don't mind hot point, I've had their gas stuff before abs it worked fine, but I'd like something nicer than rental spec.

I'm beyond ready to buy at this point, cash and credit cards in hand, just really out of patience for customer service hanging up on me or telling me it will be a MONTH to get a tech to come check on my brand new appliance.

#21 is the model you referenced.

This is literally the main use for CR for me.

FWIW I put a full set of mid-range Samsung kitchen appliances in my house in California. They were the nicest feeling appliances I've ever owned. Way better than the Jenn-Aire it replaced and better than the Kenmore I have currently.

The house I bought in PA had a 5 year old Samsung washer and dryer and I hated them. The washer in particular suffered from some easily avoidable problems and some craptastic pump engineering.

I'd probably opt for the LG at #3

I have a Samsung fridge. It has been fine for the 5 years we've had it.

I also have a Samsung dishwasher. It is sitting in a corner of my garage. I took it out and replaced it with a Bosch after a couple years because I got tired of taking it out, taking it a part and fixing it every couple months. If you want a Samsung dishwasher, you are welcome to come and get it. When it works it works well, but it was a pain to keep working. Some stupid plastic doohicky on the the left side kept getting plugged up with debris and then it wouldn't run anymore. I have two of the plastic doohickies - it takes about an hour of soaking, poking and prodding to get it cleaned out, so it was easier to just have a spare one to swap in and then get the backup one cleaned up and ready to go. Just got tired of having to remove the thing from under the counter every couple of months.

I will not buy any more Samsung products.

We remodeled our kitchen last year and went with all Samsung - we originally wanted LG but got screwed by a company going out of business (announced days after we placed our order), never received our appliances (order never processed) and only got a portion of our money (2/3) back as a settlement.  The Samsung stove/range, microwave, and fridge have been great.  The dishwasher's cheap-ass plastic latch broke a couple of weeks ago (6 months out of warranty) and was $80 to replace - glad it took 10 minutes; the new part looks more robust.  We went with black stainless, which looks great.

I can't remember which model we went with, but ours looks like the one linked to, just a different color.

I have a Samsung fridge, that is 3 years old and has been repaired 4 times. Mostly icemaker problems. We gave up on the upper one. The guy that repairs them says he won't even do compressor replacements because of all the problems. I would not buy another one.

So this will be another $500 crap shoot eh? Bah.

I quit buying their phones after the Note 3, but it seems TVs and non stove appliances are 50/50 garbage or great. It also sounds like that with the other major brands. How is anyone still in business?

Speed Queen doesn't make an oven do they?

I'm thinking more and more about getting a big propane tank installed outside and running a line for a gas cook top, then just using my countertop convection oven for baking needs. It's not big enough for a turkey or roast, but it's only $100 and tend to last 18 months.

My parents had a Samsung fridge for about 3 years. In that time period, it had it's ice maker replaced 5 or 6 times and the compressor quit TWICE. They had an extended warranty through the place they bought it, and eventually, they caved and took it back and gave them all their money back, money for everything in the fridge and freezer that got ruined the last time the compressor quit. The place felt bad enough that they gave them a hefty discount on a different brand fridge which they have had for a year with zero issues (I think it's a Whirlpool).

Samsung makes fantastic phones, tablets, and TV's, but after seeing what my parents went through, I'd look elsewhere for appliances.

We had a Samsung washing machine that turned out to be a huge piece of junk.  It was a great machine for the first couple years, then it would shake itself to death with anything more than a quarter load.  I don't plan to ever buy Samsung again after hearing other peoples opinions of them.

I have a 5 year old Samsung fridge that I had to replace the fan on twice. The door seals leak, they just crush and don't seal and are expensive. Right now I have window and door seal glued to the existing door seal to keep the thing cool. The fridge door shelves are all cracked, could be because my kid is small and a gal of milk can be heavy, but they should be better then that. I also had to replace a sensor in the back (cant remember what it is called) that keeps the freezer defrosted.

Good thing is, there are lots of others online to help you keep it running. I paid $850-ish for it, so it wasn't top of the line, but I expected more.

We redid our kitchen 2.5 years ago and paid a TON for Samsung Chef series appliances. Refrigerator, microwave, range/oven and dishwasher. Every single one of them has had issues - mostly major. I HATE them. And customer service is a joke. Never again

I remodeled my kitchen in 2011 and purchased all LG appliances.  At the time , they seemed like the best quality of anything I looked at, and much better than the equivalent Samsung models.  For example, the feel of the drawer glides in the fridge was head and shoulders above anything else.  At the time, I thought my old Whirlpool refrigerator was on its last legs, but I moved it out to the porch for extra freezer storage.

As it turns out, the old Whirlpool is still humming away out on the porch, while my LG appliances haven't been as reliable.  I've had to replace both the dishwasher and the microwave (replaced with Whirlpool, by the way), and I've had to replace the water valve and the ice maker on my fridge.  The washing machine needed a new processor board early in its life, while still under warrantee, thank goodness.

My next appliance purchases will all be Whirlpool.

We had a Samsung Dishwasher. It had a failed water sensor under the unit. We tried for 6 months to get one. Nobody had it. Nobody could say when they would come in or even if they ever would. We ended up replacing the dishwasher.

My only appliance shopping advice is to find a local/regional appliance dealer & forget the big box stores. The local places have higher quality models available than what you can find elsewhere. Also, brand names don’t always mean much, as many times competing models are built in the same factory.

We’ve had ours for 7-years. I need to check the brands on each of them, but we bought them all at the same time, from the same small dealer.

We brought all of them with us when we moved, except the Bosch dishwasher - it didn’t do a *bad* job, but I’ve never found a dishwasher that truly “works”. Our current place also doesn’t have any place to put a dishwasher, and the water was so bad in IL that I didn’t want to deal with any future problems anyway. I will say cleaning the crud from the screen was a pretty simple job on it though.

Read reviews for samdung(i honestly mispelled that, but it fits so im leaving it) stuff on any retail site.  Its pretty brutal. I even know samsung phone super fanboys who wont touch a samsung appliance even it was free. Washers “exploding”, the new efficient compressors on most fridges are weak.

I was buying a new fridge like 2 years ago. Walk in, tell the sales person what im looking for and “no samsung” and they dont think anything of it. If the salesperson seemed decent, we would be BS’ing and samsung problems would come up, they would tell you about the issues they see with them and how they werent selling for crap.

I ended up getting tired of looking at fridges for 2000$+ because thats what it took to meet a few wants. Ended up buying a sub 500$ New old school fridge and was pleasantly surprised to find the cheapo does not have the new linear compressor that is supposed to be efficient(but also dies prematurely). Its got the old stile one that tends to last forever.

Also the samsung tech that came to my boss’s house to “fix” a bad design dishwasher had pretty much just been instructed to throw parts at it until out of warranty. Prob was there was a backorder on parts so there wasnt anything to do. Repair guy was apologetic and clearly wasnt happy about the position he was forced into. Boss ended up fighting with the store he got it from for a refund and will never buy anything samsung again.

When we built our house, we bought the newest, biggest top of the line Whirlpool. Died after a year and we lost all of our food the day before a big party. It took Facebook shaming them to get a repair guy to our house after being hung up on during numerous customer service calls (just waiting on hold, we hadn't lost our temper...yet). Then less than a year later the door icemaker died. The aftermarket warranty company bailed and gave us our money back after 3 repair guys bailed on fixing it.  We got the appliance store to force Whirlpool to exchange it on a smaller lower spec Kitchen Aide (still Whirlpool) fridge. It was actually a more expensive fridge but the quality and craftsmanship is E36 M3. At this point as long as it keeps our food cold and makes ice we are happy.  My 16yr old basic GE garage beer fridge is humming along (knock on wood) just fine. It survived moving from CA to MI, storage for several months etc.

We just replaced our three year old GE dishwasher (builder spec) because it stopped dispensing soap.  We went with a Bosch and so far  are very happy with it.  Much better build quality and so quiet we can't hear it running in a quiet room.

Why can't anyone make a decent simple appliance anymore?

Bought new High Efficiency Samsung Washer/Dryer when Sept 1, 2017. The washer is a top mount, no agitator, they haven't given us any problems.

Probably the only complaint I would have is the drying sensor (normal dry, more dry, very dry) when set on normal dry will occasionally leave a load just a hair damp. Like pockets/groin of pants. Other than that, no issues.

Alright, well I'm going to make another gamble today. Going back to where I bought my Speed Queen stuff like I should have in the first place.

Debating between an Amana and a Whirlpool. From my stove thread in 2016, sounds like they're the same company so it's going to come down to price.

Should this run into a useless metal box as well, berkeley it I guess I don't need a stove, I'll just build an outdoor room around my grill.

I have only owned Samsung Galaxy phones which have been flawless for me. My friend who fixes appliances for a living always bitches about them. So I've purposely avoided the appliance arm of that company lol. Great phones though, great phones.

Getting a whirlpool convection oven. $729 should be delivered March 4. I like how stainless is cheaper than white or black. Hopefully this works out this time.

add me to the Samsung hate camp.  Bought a new fancy washer 5ish years ago and had all kinds of problems with it.  Terrible pump design, balancing problems.  Had a tech out under warranty like 3 times, plus screwing around with it myself.

My parents had a fancy Samsung dishwasher take a dump on them about a week out of warranty.

Will not buy again.
