i can only recommend further from what you're doing, that in the future get yourself a credit card that comes with credit score monitoring. i have one and i get an email if my score changes, and get to view it without dinging it. like when i paid off a bunch of stuff it went up 50 points, then when i charged a bunch of racecar parts it went back down a little.

Another option for free(-ish) monitoring is to sign up at creditkarma.com once you have resolved the issue. You can view your reports from Transunion and Experian on there and they do send you alerts if you get hard enquiries on your report.
