So I've got an issue with some smaller, very persistent Catalpa trees trying to stay alive under the edge of my foundation and sidewalk. I cut them down and did the crisscross cuts on the stump, filled the cuts/holes with "Stump Out" dissolver, yet these trees keep coming back and growing from the stumps. They were too large to pull up the roots, so is there any way that I can spray these trees and kill them dead? The standard Round-up brush killer did nothing...
Burn the roots out with charcoal?

drill into the stump & fill with salt.

One has to be careful about doing that- I have read of trees that managed to keep going down into the ground- the hole allows enough O2 to keep the embers glowing. Roots tend to wrap around things you may not want to get hot.
We have some kind of weed trees, too- I just cut them down as they come up. They will eventually move onto someone else's property.
Cut off any new growth then dig around them a bit and scrape off the bark below ground level. Put dirt back and cover with heavy black plastic sheet to prevent sunlight. You can cover the plastic with wood chips or mulch if aesthetics are an issue.

This. Total darkness. For a long time.
It works.

We use Tordon RTU to great effect.....like seriously, that stuff is awesome.
You need a herbicide with either imazapyr or triclopyramine.
Not stump rot stuff. That's for dead stumps, and yours isn't dead.
It's like deja vu all over again!
drill them and pour powdered copper into the holes, it will destroy them in quick time

When I worked for the parks department, we had like a half mile fence-row of poplars die off. Closer inspection found a bunch of copper nails in all of them.

Why would someone do that? Ugh.
I used to drill holes in sweet gum stumps and fill it with undiluted roundup and 2,4-D.

The tree row ran behind backyards and poplars are a messy tree. Lot of swimming pools and gardens ect. "Blocks the view". Never did figure out exactly who did it.
Thanks guys! So if I were to combine all of these techniques, it should work triply effective, right? More Jiggawats and all...
if it's an area that's able to be mowed … then dig around the stumps, deeply enough to cut well below the service … fill the hole, and use the lawn mower to keep cutting … eventually they'll stop spouting
I can/will not tell you to pour Kerosene in the stumps.
Kerosene will kill anything organic it touches.
Yeah, growing up we used diesel fuel like the kerosene mentioned above, because who keeps kerosene around? Didn't burn them or anything, just poured a bit onto the stump.
Know any good punk bands?
I've had pretty good luck with drilling holes and filling with Roundup concentrate.
