Possibly dumb question but where is the best place to look for rental homes? I have been on Craigslist and local MLS site. Is there anywhere else I am missing?

Newspaper. I figured out too late that the people who own the homes are often old and not on the internet.

You can contact a realtor or management company that has rentals. The house owner is responsible for paying the fees to the realtor or management company so you are out no money. They may not be able to show you houses you find on CL though.

I will second the idea of using a Realtor. We found a very nice place, at our price, in one day with a good Realtor.

If you know roughly where you want to live try driving around and look out for "for rent" signs. Some places don't get listed on the interwebs because the proprietors don't know how to use it.

Yep. there are several rental houses in my neighborhood. Never seen any of them in the paper, etc. Just a "For Rent" sign in the front yard. There is one that is handled by a rental agency but it also uses a sign in the yard.
