They're really not that big of a deal. There's a reason why people have SCREENED porches in FL. Night time with lotsa light is the only time you sea some big weirdass prehistoric lookin berkeleyer come at you. Buzzed at the gas station at 2am is when you gotta watch out. Don't be caught with your mouth hangin open. Oh...and Lovebugs. Thanks UF ;)

We get way more "It's cold and I wanna snuggle" bugs here in north GA. Scorpions, Black Widows, Brown Recluse, tunneling spiders, wolf spiders, etc.

I just noticed the return of the lovebugs last Friday. They're absolutely harmless, except to vehicle paint paint. My girlfriend likes to remind me how bad the insect situation is here compared to where she grew up in Michigan. It's true, there are many insects, and apparently, the largest number of entomologists per capita in the US. The roaches sometimes move indoors.

The weather in the summer takes some patience. It's hot and quite humid. Late spring and early summer are usually pretty dry, and mid to late summer bring a lot of short, localized thunderstorms. that occur almost daily it seems (although reality may not be so bad). I think because of our lack of plains and distance from the coast, we rarely have a breeze unless a storm is rolling in. Fall and spring are excellent, though.

Yep, unless your particular town or county is really poor, Florida roads are glass smooth compared to northern roads. You can run rubberband tires with little worry of rim damage.

My biggest complaint about living in Florida (Lighthouse point near Boca Raton and Gainesville) was the straight flat roads. Drove me crazy - both times.

Meh. Good for cop spottin. I set the cruise at 125 from gville to Ft. Pierce once...in the interest of not violating probation.

There are roads in Florida that aren't straight, tho flat is unavoidable. The somewhat curvey roads in Fl. are county roads.

It's my experience that roads are being straighten out in all 50 states in the interests of safety, but the curves are still there on the coastal states.

I know ... but a not too distant NHL team (Tampa Lightning) is a definite plus for Gainesville.

In that respect Florida is better than Wisconsin.

I showed the thread to my wife, and she's getting freaked out by all the bugs None the less, it hasn't stopped her interest and an 11 month season sure beats the 4 auto-x events in a year that we have over here. So I guess we have some homework and a visit to do.

The bugs are a regional thing. Very few here. I paint outside all the time with no problems.

Yeah, that's a very different place than the middle of the state.
