Need to do an oil change on the MPV. Usually, I just buy what I need before I do the oil change, but this time, I bought a case of Mobil 1 at Sam's and I just figured I had a filter on the shelf somewhere.

Looking around the garage, I found two from the old 626, one for the Neon, one for the Hyundai, one for the RX-7 and two for the Chevy C-30. Of these cars, only the RX-7 and the Chevy truck still reside in my garage. The others are long gone.

I also found one un-identified filter. I hope it's the right one.

On the oil filter shelf:

  • KTM 690 SMC (it has 2, sized tiny and very small plus 2 strainers you clean): 2 sets.

  • BMW e36 M3: A couple Purolators I bought just to be sure I had a filter, but didn't use 'cause I had a couple Mann filters on hand. And a couple Mann filters.

  • OEM Miata: A couple.

  • Audi A4 2.8: 1, and it hasn't made it out to the garage from the ESC Tuning box the A4 door trim hardware came in.

  • Austin Healy Sprite MkII: Several, both spin-on for the 1275 motor and cartridge for the 948.

  • Toyota Tacoma: 1 on hand.

...I tossed all the mystery Honda/VW/Suzuki/Yamaha filter when I moved garage a few years ago.

I have the Impala and Avalanche on the same filter, you can run the PF61 version in place of the standard PF46 that comes on nearly all the LS motors. The Dakota on whatever I find, normally either the 5281090 Mopar filter or the NapaGold version. The diesel F250 only gets Motorcraft FL1995's, period. Well, until I get that wild hair and buy some Donaldson filters for it. Only other filter hanging out is a Motorcraft FL1A.

I have at least 2 for my mpv, 1 for the f150, 1 for the Accent. 0 for the current focus, one still lying around from the focus we had 2 years ago. actually that one is pretty large I should check if it will fit the truck.

I found out by accident a few years ago that the MPV filter is the same thread pitch and nearly the same size as the Accent filter. Interchangeable. In fact the "Accent" filter I bought last week is the part # for the MPV, walmart was sold out of the oem Accent filter size/part#.

Two Wix filters. One for an '86 Accord I no longer own (it's # 51334 if anyone's interested) and one for the Windstar my wife uses in her home staging and interior design business. Sorry, that's all I got.

Since 2 of the 3 cars use the same filter.... and the other doesn't need an oil change but twice a year, I have 4 Hyundai filters left.

I tend the stock filters for our cars. Right now there's several on the shelf for the 911, Miata, 240SX and Civic. I recently got a killer deal on filters for the 240SX, so I picked up a half dozen or so.

I have 4 different types of filters: Big Toyota fat (LS400), Little Toyota fat (2 Harleys, RN Truck), Big Toyota skinny (Elise), Little Toyota skinny (Camry, Rolla). I buy them by the case at the dealer, except for the LS400 one, which I just buy a few of at a time. I could probably just buy and use the Big (longer) ones in place of the shorter ones if I wanted to drop my SKU count.

I do an oil change every 10k on the Scion, which tends to be around every 10 months. Last time, I bought a 3-pack of genuine Toyota filters on eBay (with drain plug washers) for $21. So I have two on my shelf.

If I ever find myself with filters for cars I no longer own on the shelf, I just give them away. The exception is a spin-on fuel filter I have from my 1984 Volvo 245 Diesel - I can't even GIVE that one away! hahaha

TDi filters I buy as part of a 20K miles maintenance kit, which gets me two oil changes. A kit just arrived and is sitting next to me at work right now.

When I bought the GT6, the seller gave me all of his spare parts (pretty much filled my truck...) and included a few oil filter elements.

Sonic included a few extra Mann filters for the E30... I've used a couple, but the remainder will go to the next owner.

I think I still have an old Fram PH8 for the 5.0 that was in my van (sold in 2007).... Hmm... actually, I may have bought it for my '78 F150's 351M - which was sold in 1992.

Right now I'm swimming in Mobil 1 0w-40. Bought two additional TDi changes worth by accident. This wouldn't be a complaint if I had a good place to store it all.

I pay the local dealership $21. I don't have to do anything other than watch TV and drink coffee for an hour or so. It's not fast, but I can hardly buy all the needed consumables for that price; not counting the coffee. Ridicule me if you'd like...

I'm with you, the majority of the time I end up burning myself, spilling oil, or swearing in frustration while doing an oil change. Letting someone else handle it and dispose of the crap is win-win.

I had a truck oil change day last weekend. Just went through and did all the trucks. I went and bought 15 quarts and 3 filters... Then got to looking around and found 15 quarts of oil and 3 filters for them on the shelf.

I have filers for cars I don't even own anymore. However I really need to catch some oil on sale. Stocks are low.

I like changing my own oil. It's good to hit your grease fittings and check for any new leaks or loose wires/brackets every 3k. I also rotate my tires every 6-9k

I buy filters for both my cars in 10-packs (both Mann and Mahle seem to come this way), so right now I've probably got 8 or so for the 525i and maybe 6 for the 2002.

somewhere along the line i wound up with a big box of random filters.. there are about 20 oil and maybe 10 air filters... i don't know what they are for and i'm too lazy to cross reference the part numbers to find out... the only filter i can identify is an air filter for an 80's Chevy/GM truck, and that's only because it's like 6" tall..

I have three laying around - a K&N for my now-sold Mazdaspeed3, a Purolator Gold for my RX-7 Turbo, and a Motorcraft for my Mustang. I also still have the old cartridge-style oil filter housing for my MS3, which I converted to spin-on while I still had it.
