How to turn something from an Mp4 into something else that plays well with WIndows Movie maker, without losing my HD goodness? I know there are a ton of websites and free programs that will do the conversion, but the few I've tried don't do it in HD. Any suggestions?

Movie Maker that is built into Windows 7 will work with HD video.

VLC has a plugin (handbrake) that will convert video between formats and is open source.

Either way, it will take a while to do unless you've got a decent system.

I've had good success with Handbrake (http://handbrake.fr/) using the standard high profile to change the container type from .avi to .mkv. Plus there's a lot of options depending upon the video type to clean up the video. There's also a large community surrounding it, makes it pretty easy to figure out issues and get good tutorials.

You gonna buy me something else to use?

I'll check out handbrake. I love my VLC player, thanks for the tip.

If you're doing not for profit work I would recommend using a trial version of adobe premiere pro.

http://mp4cam2avi.sourceforge.net/ - this may help with conversion if you're truly stuck with movie maker.
