Oh, and don't canoe.
There's a pull down menu near the preview at the bottom of the threads. It says 'Preview', select 'Syntax Guide' and read what shows up below.

I think Nick nailed it, other than;
Oh and welcome to the insanity!
Try and use the words "Miata", "hammer", "Amy", "shotgun" and "hootus" as much as possible...
...no one will suspect you are new.
You can read this, it might help:
Welcome, try talking about that tiny red car in the picture. Do you race, Auto-X, build crap?

Wut?
Preview?... What is this you speak of. I don't have the extra buttons on my screen.
Really? I see it on both IE11 and Firefox. Are you sure you don't see it? Just below where you type and just above the preview of what you're actually typing? It replaces the preview with the syntax guide.
It doesn't matter, since the syntax guide is next to useless. None of the tags work for me on either Firefox or Safari.

All of it works for me. Even the crazy way to put an URL link or hotlink with the square brackets... it all works.
Except for the quote with the greater than symbol. It previews correct
Hitting enter once won't start a new paragraph unless you double space after the last character. I just double enter. That was the big thing I wondered about the first several posts.
Photos aren't hosted here. You have to use an external web hosting site. Photobucket and a couple others work well, but some like google photos don't work.
Also, you can make a bulleted list with a hyphen, then a space, then your line item. You can single-enter and it will make a bulleted list for you.
If you don't put the space after the hyphen, it shows up as a single line in most browsers:
-first item -second item -third item.
Oh... and this might be a firefox thing, but I notice that if I go back and edit something (even if I just add a comma or correct spelling) the formatting is different after it posts. For instance, instead of emoticons being in the middle of text, they show up as a separate line.
You'll need to log in to post.
