I eat two hot dogs a month, served by a nice lady with a umbrella shaded cart.

The hot dogs make no claims to be vegetarian. Conversely I cannot offer any testimony that they contain meat, as I cannot tell the difference once smothered with sufficient red onions, sauerkraut and spicy mustard.

In any case, in the grand scheme of Unhealthful Things I Do, two hot dogs a month probably won't be the cause of my demise.

I eat far more of the meat substitutes than the real thing, and I agree they are tasty if considered on their own merits and not compared to 'real' burgers and sausage. My body doesn't tolerate meat very well any more, so the substitutes are a welcome choice.

Back at a 4th of July party in 1998 I ate 3 jumbo hot dogs loaded up with everything along with chips, Dorito's and 20 other snacks and side dishes. I ended up sick as a dog and went on a strict "natural foods" diet along with juicing carrots by the bag.

I lost 30 pounds, felt awesome, my eyesight improved, ate every 2 hours of whatever fruit, veggies, and salads I wanted - it was normal to juice 3-4# of carrots a day. I felt GREAT!

It took a lot of effort - juicing the carrots and cleaning the sink/juicer took 30 minutes along with shopping for fresh fruit/veggies was a every 4 day process. There was no way I could shop on Saturday and have decent looking veggies/banana's by the next Friday. Then you have to prepare a salad every night. LOTs of effort.

I got lazy and got back to the SAD* (Standard American Diet). I gained the 30# back along with another 20#. Today I feel like crap - even though I walk 2 miles - 4x a week. Now I am back to juicing.........................

*SAD = pizza, hot dogs, Pepsi, chips, hamburgers, french fries, giant subs, chili, Dorito;s.

Some of the reasons are social, like if we have to make a pizza for our "SAD" family members. Dough with pizza sauce won't show off how much better cooks we are than everyone else, no matter how well I can make dough/sauce.

Some of it is to avoid boredom, if we have a BBQ how long until shishkabob gets old? How many recipes call for something in the middle of the sandwich, or teriyaki chicken and rice?

Some of it is just because we miss that hotdog or burger after years of not partaking and seeing them all over place. The taste the texture the smell, these things get imprinted in our brains memory. Smell in the strongest trigger for memory after all. How many good times or memories can you associate with food and eating?

I am probably missing some reasons but to finish it all off, just because it is good. It is like eating at some Thai (or whatever is new to you bacon filled chocolate coated doughnuts maybe?) restaurant for the first time. There are a lot of familiar tastes all used in a way you have never tasted put together in that particular way.

Stick it up a pig's ass and wait for it to die of natural causes?

Sorry. Anything that zaps the moisture out (like deep frying) would help I guess(?)

Yeah, I just had "that" exam last week. Sticking anything there still makes me feel lousy.
