Dad, in his ultimate wisdom, decided that my basement walls needed painted. Problem is I have been mudding up the poured concrete walls to make them plumb, square and leveling a ledge.
I'd like to remove the paint before starting to mud again.
Pressure washing is out because of proximity to breaker boxes. Mechanical stripping is most likely out also, although I have an Eastwood SCT. Chemical stripping seems most likely.
Search says many strippers are available. Considerations are effectiveness, application on vertical walls, flammability (NG HW boiler), fumes (no opening windows w/ only one man door) and hazardous ingredients. I'll deal w/ cleanup no matter what it takes.
Any experience or recommendations?
TIA
This is relevant to my intrests.
Heat gun or steam cleaner could work, latex based paints respond well to heat.
I've got a bunch of paint I need to take off brick walls, going to experiment with a paste/slurry of trisodium phosphate mixed with corn flour. I was having some success with a tri-phos solution, but it's hard to keep it on a verticle surface, hence looking at making a paste.
Commercially there is a product called peel-away. There's a few different peel Always depending on what paint you're working with, but I believe they're all pretty much a caustic soda paste, similar to what I described above. You paint the paste on, cover the paste with a plastic sheet so it sweats/ keeps the paste from drying out. A few hours later it should easily scrape off.
I'm also open to other ideas, given I've got a bunch of paint to strip off brick walls in our house
I did it by hand with a butter knife as a kid with my mother back in the 80's. Why? realtor suggested we remove the grey latex paint off the concrete front porch. The paint broke off in chips and pieces. That was the longest two weeks of my life spent on the ground on all fours working on it.
Yeah, not a job I'd be looking forward to. Good luck!
I have no personal experience with it, but I've heard good things about the soy based paint strippers like Soy-Strip. They supposedly work on latex paint and are odor free and work on concrete (but not for penetrating sealers, just for surface finishes like paint). They can be used indoors with minimal ventilation. Here's one that turns up after a quick Google search:
https://www.realmilkpaint.com/shop/strippers-removers/soy-gel-professional-paint-remover/
Lists at $22/gallon, good for 200sf/gallon.

I've used a soy-based stripper on floor adhesive. It worked quite well.
I think using a pressure washer will also get the job done. Maybe you would be asking where to find the best pressure washer on the market? You have come to the right place. As we all know pressure washers have gained popularity due to their ease of use and power. Unlike using a bucket or hose to clean your car, driveway, or even patio, pressure washers use little water and clean efficiently. Listed on this review are the best brands you could ever have, whether it is a gas or electric pressure washer. Feel free to choose.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. Gonna look into those. Found Krud Kutter, Rustoleum and several more at the orange and blue stores. I have access to caustic powder, don't know if I wanna go there tho.

Krud cutter is my go to at work.
I think Krud Kutter is more of a cleaner intended to take off small amounts of latex paint so you might find yourself struggling taking off a bunch.
I'm reviving this to see what Fasted58 used since I'm pretty much in the same situation.
I'm so predictable. My first thought when I saw the title was, "Shotgun?"
See post 3...

Project has been put on hold for now, too many irons in the fire.
Made no decision on stripping yet.
It will resume some day though, with or without shotgun.
