from a regular 928 ? There is an S in the vin # , is that relevant?
As a child of the 1980s here is what I remember -- all 928s after a certain period were "S" models. There wasn't any year where you could have a 928 or a 928S.
I think the S means four-valves per cylinder.
for 83-85 928 S models had front and rear spoilers. Most differences were inside the engine and stuff we never saw here (If you find one nab a gray market S). I think all 85-86s were S models in the US. I don't think Porsche actually built any 1986 model year 928s. I suspect the first 1,000 were left over 85s (I have one - interesting there's no 3rd brake light). At serial number 1001 they started using 928S4 shells and parts and put on the old front and rear bumper covers. 1979-82 = 4.5 liter non-interference engine. 83-84 = 4.7 sorta non-interference engine - some say yes, some no - it's close. 85-86 = 5.0 32v engine. 86.5 - 92 = updated 5.0 (different intake and injection). 93 = 5.4 liter
1989 model , sitting on a car lot. Just a pipe dream at this point. owner says only 4,000 of this model worldwide?

Thank you. I will try to get by there today. I am trying real hard to ignore it though.

Then you need to post that in the ignore thread. Sheesh.
In '89 they were all S4's. The thing to look for in '89 is whether or not it's a GT. The GT's were all 5 speeds, came with a limited slip diff, 10 more HP, different wheels (wider), better suspension, shorter shifter, a different spoiler, and were lighter. It should also have a GT badge on the back.

Did not see a GT badge on the back, this should make it easier to ignore! Thanx for the education!
Still over 300 hp and good for 170ish mph for the regular slow version .
If you want to be talked out of it - heater blower motor = $600, radiator = $1100, 3 pumps for the windshield washers. A coupe that has rear air conditioning...etc., etc.

If you want to be talked out of it - heater blower motor = $600, (meh, don't need heat or a/c that bad) radiator = $1100, (Custom bigass Griffin and some hose routing could probably be done for $300) 3 pumps for the windshield washers. (Remove for weight reduction!) A coupe that has rear air conditioning...etc., etc. (I bet removing a/c and all the silly etcs would improve reliability and driving enjoyment.
)
Fixed.
