Charleston forecast to get that much rain, and it's coupled with an astronomical high tide, so there's going to be some widespread damage there I fear :( Such a beautiful city, I hope everyone in the path stays safe and evacuates if necessary.

The latest NHC forecast says 20"-30" of rain is expected here. That's a little over half a billion gallons of water per square mile or 773 Olympic-sized swimming pools. The tri-county area is a touch over 2500 square miles. That's a lot of water. There is no chance of my house flooding but that much water will drown this town.
It started raining yesterday and is supposed to keep raining until Friday.
The farmer who leases our property will probably lose most of his soybean crop. It went in the ground a month or so back and is only 2"-3" tall. This much rain will beat it flat.
Stay dry if you can. This thing is supposed to park just off the coast for almost 2 days. We'll be playing it by ear, but probably take tomorrow and possibly Wednesday off. It will depend on what the flooding looks like. A few dollars isn't worth flooding a truck or the guys in it.
My prayers are with you guys.
In '94 we had a major storm in South GA. 25 inches in 24 hours. The Flint River crested 23 FEET above flood stage. 6500 homes were lost.
Keep safe!
Our power was out for about 6 hours, but St. Generac took care of that for us. Neighbor's giant dead pine tree blocked our driveway again with a big limb. I had to pull what I could out of the way so I could back out. When it stops raining I'll drag all that back into their yard. They don't live there anyway. We got more than 6 inches of rain because the guage is full. All in all, typical for Ocala.

We had one in 2015 that breached 18 dams, closed 43 bridges, and over 200 roads. It closed I-95 from I-20 in Florence to I-26. It also killed 19 people.
That was 24" of rain over 4 days. 30" will be interesting at best.
At the moment it's raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock. I almost can't hear myself think with how it's beating on this steel roof.

Keep an eye on the galoot. Luna gave herself a bladder infection cause she wouldnt go in the rain
On the third try he peed and actually squatted twice before Mr. Sensitive decided that conditions weren't a go for a poop. How you do that is beyond me. Fourth try he peed and pooped. He still wasn't happy with it.
Toyman you guys are going to be in for it. Reminds me of the hurricane that sat on top of Houston a few years back.
I drove I95 the January after the 2015 storm, the devastation was still quite visible.
There were lots of trees missing their tops and still a lot of fallen trees. This may be less of a wind event, but in tropical systems flooding kills more people than the effects of wind.
Good luck.
My in-laws are up near Lake City and they just sent a video of their backyard, I took some screen shots from that video, the house is still dry so far and it looks like the worst is past them but by the carport is about 3' of standing water.

Florida or south carolina? I'm assuming Florida.
hobiercr said:Well, with the storm surge a canoe would be a great idea, but no thanks.
Latest NHC forecast shows Savannah to Charleston predicted to get 16"+ of rain. Toyman, hope your farm is ok.
I was glad I had a canoe in 2017 when Harvey flooded Houston. I was able to ferry my family and our gear out. A friend was waiting on high ground to pick us up.
On the other hand rescue operations were underway in my neighborhood and a cop yelled at me because I wasn't supposed to be "self rescuing". Screw that fascist. The other cops looked at him like he had two heads so he shut up.
In reply to Chris Tropea :
Well, it is called Lake City...
Hope their house stays dry and they don't get too much more rain.
Ok, as punishment for being a smartass, a transformer blew and I lost power for three hours. Thanks Duke.
At least my grocery shopping is done for the week now.
9" of rain so far.
A tornado about 10 miles from me ripped the roof off of a Walmart and and destroyed an Arby's. It also flipped several cars in the dealership next to the Arby's.
Most of the area bridges are closed and most of downtown is flooded this morning.
We are closed for the day. Half of our jobs for the day were in the downtown hospitals and I'm not going to wreck a truck getting to them.
The frogs are having a grand old time. I'm pretty sure they were having an orgy in my backyard last night.
If y'all don't know why Toyman doesn't want to go downtown it's because it floods a lot. Well at least it used to. Locals have the roads memorized as to which ones flood on which blocks. With all of the one way streets, after a heavy rain at high tide, you can end up zigzaging across town.
I remembered yesterday that my mom has a culvert that drains off her property into the salt water creek. It has a flap on it to keep the salt water from draining back at really high tides. That also limits the out going water some. I called her to make sure it was open. It wasn't so she had a little adventure with a neighbor getting it open. She reports this morning that she has no standing water in the ditches leading up to the culvert so success.
it is windy as berkeley right now. Almost windier than it was yesterday. Given that the humidity is still way up and everything, I get the sense i'm in for some very unsettled weather over the next few days. Shame. I need to paint and I get the sense i'm not supposed to do that in the kitchen.
For us it was actually a nice day of rain that we desperately needed and enough wind to knock some of the loose stuff out of the trees. Not sure we could have dealt with 16-20 inches like some folks north of us are seeing, though. Weird storm. Strengthened quickly and close to shore.

What about the bedroom? I built an engine in mine once ...

You present a compelling argument. It's a three bedroom house. I only sleep in one.
We are about half-throttle today. Two of my guys can't make it in due to flooding in the area they live.
Downtown is still pretty much shut down due to flooding. High tide is about 10 am so it may recede some by the afternoon.
More rain is forecast for today. Not a huge deal. More of a PITA than anything.
