We tend to worry about those around us and like us but please take a minute to send good vibes towards those in Central America about to be impacted by Eta. It doesn't look good for a population not as well prepared for what's coming as we are in the US.
be prepared to hear lots of stories of mudslides. Those people suffer badly from them when a hurricane comes ashore.
I was just looking at that track on the news. It's going to be a brutal situation for the folks down there.

Seeing predictions of 35" of rain. Holy cow. Hopefully people can even find some high ground!
Odd name.
Since many would like to know the estimated time of arrival for the hurricane, a name like this and a title like this leads me to think the discussion will be about the hurricane's eta.
In reply to John Welsh (Moderate Supporter) :
My understanding is the naming is a us convention, starting at a name beginning with A, and moving down through the alphabet. As we have gone way beyond 26 named storms this year, the next convention is to give them greek letters as names. Pretty sure when it comes ashore the locals will just know the storm as Hijo de puta or some such...
In reply to travellering :
I had not considered Eta being the Greek letter. I figure it was a name, akin to Etta James
Bumping this back up since it looks like Eta is heading for a number of GRMers & has regained hurricane strength.
Hunker down, good luck & please check in when you can!
Yep, that's what we woke up to this AM. Looks like today will be hurricane prep. Need to lash a few things down and make sure the generator is up and running. Wheeee.
We did our prep this past weekend, so now we'll just wait and watch the mold creep across... everything.
I can tell you as I was in Costa Rica last week, there was a ton of land slides there. One of the major highways completely washed out and there were a lot of trees that were washed out and covering the road. It was a mess the whole trip.

I was supposed to visit my aunt this weekend. I wonder if I should still do that.
Even though it was off to the West a bit we had non stop wind & heavy rain for several days over the weekend. Being on the NE quadrant the wind/rain coming off the ocean just kept coming. I lost 6-7 large Papaya loaded with fruit so they were topheavy.
So let me get this straight, this thing swung through the southern Carib, nailed central america, got bored and headed north through mexico, back to the gulf and now hitting Florida? Sounds like this thing has some energizer batteries in it or something.
I'll be super glad when these humidity/rain pumps quit playing around down there.
Hopefully it turns out to be a nonevent for everyone south of me.

I'ma go to Disney world.
In other news, I just ordered a E36 M3load of video games from target. I'll be ok.
We just got told we had to leave Ft Clinch State Park with our motorhome.
I thought it's ETA was that it had already made landfall?
Lots of wind down here this past weekend. The damage at my parents house:

They will rebuild!

Head NW. Your fastest way toward good weather.
We're just waiting for the worst to hit. The generator is prepped, the tall stuff in the yard is secured, now we just wait for it to move past. We have no risk of flooding but many in the area do. Pinellas County already has 2-3,000 without power. Hopefully we won't have to deal with that.
Thankfully there is a fair amount of dry air on the backside of the storm so the amount of rain post-center shouldn't be too bad. Current predictions are 5-6" of rain total.
I can't not share this. Sorry.

That was kinda like shootin' fish in a barrel... but we get the temptation got the best of ya.
