Well, Sandy is way off shore, but we are getting a bit of a taste of her now. Gusty winds, spitting rain. Appears she will be heading up towards the upper east coast. Might get a bit more unpleasant there. Some of the islands got slammed. We have been quite lucky this year.
I can't wait. I hope we get snowpocalypse.
I second that. I hope it turns into crazy mix of a hurricane and a blizzard. Like a hurri-blizzard that finally freezes Hell over.
After last un-winter I'm kindof dying for some actual snow.
I'm hoping that it'll either get over with or stay out of the NY/NJ area for a few days longer...
(Guess who's flying to the UK that weekend and has to change planes at JFK?)

We're strange? You're the one with an avatar of a guy who thinks women are essentially no different from radiators! ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)

I'm intrigued and saddened by the idea that somewhere in the north east a news outlet is having a meeting about what to call the impending doom, who'll do the threatening voiceover, is there a URL available for it, etc.

You have never been through a real hurricane. A lot of us here have. It is not something to look forward to. I have been through 3, and was here right after Andrew. Bad times. If this thing keeps going, and is a bit offshore coming close to NYC, Long Island Sound will flood NYC. Raining hard here now, blowing 15-20mph, and we are hundreds of miles away.
This reminds me, I need to get my generator up and running. Irene was a PITA last year, and we didn't even get the worst of it.
(giggles with delight at no longer being part of hurricane hype)
It's not aimed at us, thankfully.

Just got a strong gust, knocked a 12' branch off a tree in the back yard. Hmmm..
Now that I live in an area that got pretty royally berked by Irene last year, I'm hoping that bitch stays away. And if it snows I'm gonna be pissed.

They really don't like adblockers, and I won't disable everything. It's dark anyway. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

so all the cruise ships must go out to sea i assume?
The real question here is: what is the hoons solution for this week here in ny? Good all seasons or snow tires on the Volvo?
I have to drive to Ft. Devons, Mass. 3 hours away. Hope the gun is inside .....
Yep, watching this very closely. Near Allentown, PA here, about 80 miles inland from the Jersey shore. Forecast models seem to have it hitting shore between Delaware and South Jersey. Berkleying beautiful....in the "Snowtober" storm last year I had no power for 6 days. First thing I did last night was make sure my generator still works. Going to pick up a couple of propane tanks tonight for the grill. Hoping this storm knows how to turn right, instead of only turning left...![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
Seems like they are posting worse case scenario.
One map sees it as going along the coast to Maine.
Of course, if all three storms come together, best to be prepared for the worst.
