I wonder why they decided to go with an outboard electric. Seems like a foil mounted drive would be more efficient. One less thing to drag through the water. There's more spray coming off the outboard than anything else.
I think they are using a Torqeedo electric outboard. Powerful little units.

They are pretty stout.
I would still take the motor assembly off the leg and mount it on the foil. It doesn't make much sense to drag another vertical through the water if you don't have to.
Cool concept. I'd love to build one some day.

I would say it is done due to ease of production. They have to know zero about power units to build what they did. If they touch it they are responsible for any issues.

I would have to agree with that. As a plus, power can probably be what you want. If you want a gas engine, it's a case of removing one and mounting the other.
