Slush covered hills and inept driver blocking the road meant I had to take the LONG way home tonight. Also, I could tell that my current snow dont have too much life left in them, bright side is shiney new Hakkas next year

It's snowing-ish/freezing rainingalmost here. We'll see if they shut down my school tomorrow.

Oregonians are usually pretty retarded when it comes to snow or ice, but I could care less about the weather, I've got good tires and limited slip diffs at both ends.

Snow is no problem. Ice OTOH is a bitch. In Atlanta, snow = ice.

NW Ohio melts during the day and freezes at night regularly. We see plenty of ice and in 9 years of driving for a living I have never taken a snow/ice day off

NW Ohio is slightly more prepared for snowfall than NW Georgia. The city of Atlanta has 3 snowplows...

Prior to moving here, I think I had one really bad snow day where I called into work. Since being down here, I have had 3 snow days in one year. Two being today and yesterday. I am going to try to get to work tomorrow, but it doesn't look good.

We're getting 12-18" tonight-into-tomorrow in RI. It's already started coming down. I'm still planning on being at work tomorrow after I dig out.

Winter tires FTW

Huntsville isn't much better. We have about 7" and 3 snowplows. That being said it was my first time driving in snow at the age of 22. I can't believe I have driven 6 years and next driven in snow.

After the second day of doing nothing in Athens Georgia i took my two roommates out in my summer tire shod RX8. That was interesting. Sideways action ON DEMAND. Got to drive all over the road as often the path that was clear went all over the road. Spun the tires at EVERY red light. Abandoned cars are everywhere lining the sides of the road, did see one Nismo Z abandoned in the middle of the road, it did not appear to be stuck. It's a great time to be a car thief in Athens.

In my part of ct we're predicted to get 18 inches or so. I'm working from home. It's not that I don't think I can make it to work, I know I can. It's that I don't want to waste an extra 2 hours or more commuting when I don't have to.

All the school systems in metro Atlanta are closed for the third straight day. There is still too much ice in subdivisions and little-traveled side streets are covered.

Most main thoroughfares are open but patches of ice are everywhere. Temps were a little above freezing yesterday but anything that melted became ice with overnight temps in the 20's. Mother Nature won't co-operate with the clean-up until the weekend, so we're looking at a few more days of dodgy driving conditions and widespread closings.

But, I will head to the store this afternoon to re-stock the beer supply. The roads will be better even though the projected high temps for today are below freezing. At least the power never went out; that's always the biggest concern when we have an ice event.

Southerners are adorable when it snows. Well, adorable from afar, terrifying up close.

Due to the budget, they've stopped plowing/salting non-arterial streets until we've got more than 4 inches now. Lots of fun watching BMW/Mercedes SUVs with all-season tires sliding through the stop sign at the bottom of the hill every day. Where my parents are on the snowy side of the state, they have to shovel off the roof a couple times each winter, and when you're done you don't need a ladder to get down. Winter reminds you that you're nature's bitch.

Nothing like RWD cars and snow tires, though. You can drive with a cup of coffee in one hand and shift with the other. Steering wheel is mostly optional. A little nudge of the wheel with your elbow and some extra throttle....wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

It isn't the amount of snow that affects me, it's the amount of wind. WE got about 5-7" yesterday/last night. THat's not that much but it makes 3' drifts where I live. I was driving a lowered Elantra through snow over the hood to get to a plowed road.

So far we've gotten 24" of snow this winter.... normal is about 7"

What irritates me is the people here in New England that still can't drive in the snow. I learned driving RWD in the snow & have never had any issues. I can understand a place down south having issues, but here?

It also amazes me that people here are still shocked when in mid-December a snow storm hits. Last one before Xmas they interviewed a girl on one of the local newscasts buying shovels & snow brooms. She admitted she didn't expect the storm. IT'S DECEMBER IN NEW ENGLAND, IT IS GOING TO SNOW Turns out it was an old co-worker of mine, pseudosport, & silverfleet & she wasn't known for her intelligence.

Yes, there are hardcore skiers that will drive to the top, ski down and then drive tot he top again. Obviously someone has to be the driver, but you just take turns.

I have watched it, but never skied.

I drove into work in my RWD, manual, pickup w/o any weight in the back, if I hadn't cleared half our cul-de-sac on Monday I wouldn't have made it anywhere the kids in the neighborhood packed it all down and now there's a good solid 3" of ice on the rest of the road, except where I cleared and drove out the other day, my neighbors started using my path yesterday ;)

and for all you haters, I'm from the north, upstate NY, Maine, and norther CT (as in up on the Western Mass border). The problem in the South with snow is they literally have 50 trucks to clear, salt and sand, but we're not talking 'real' plow trucks, we're talking F250s with a small sand/salter in the back w/o a plow, There are literally only a handful of actual plows so nothing got cleared, the amount of sand and salt on the roads is beyond pitiful, and everyone out driving on the 6" of snow compacted it into 3" of solid ice, and it's not melting because temps haven't come up, these are what ALL secondary roads look like as of last night:

Got about 6" or so... slept in... dug out... drove 30 miles to work... made it in by 9am... fortunately, PennDOT and snow-panic made for a pleasant 35 min drive across the PATP (& side streets) as there was little traffic. On a normal day, that 30 mile commute can take over an hour.

I'm convinced that that's about the same amount Indianapolis has.

NEWS FLASH: IT SNOWS HERE.

3" and the entire city goes into panic mode. This happens at least 10x a year. You'd think people would get used to it?

I wanted french toast this morning. Everyone had already bought all the ingredients in preparation for the 2nd Ice Age.

Yep...Cincinnati had a hissy fit overnight because we had another inch or so fall and OMFGNOBODYWASPREPARED!!!!!1!11 all that hullabaloo reminded me that I still had not rotated my tires.

I got to use my brandy new jack and jackstands to rotate my tires before work today. Now I need to convince the missus that we need a higher capacity compressor and air tools plus (flounder) torque sticks (/flounder) so I can get a full tire rotation done in less than 20 minutes
