... it's a 35mm film camera that only cost me $50.
More specifically, it's a Canon Rebel T2. It's among the last film cameras Canon produced.
Reasons for buying it:
- Inexpensive ($50 cheaper than my Pentax)
- Extensive number of lenses I can buy–it uses the same lenses as my work camera (EF system)
- I'm getting tired of having to constantly have to adjust every setting on my K1000 just to take a single picture (toddlers don't sit still that long)
- Autofocus. I'm getting really tired of getting photos back and they are out of focus
Any lenses I should buy? Anyone else have experience with the T2?
It turns out that only one of the two Canon lenses I have for my work camera will work on the T2. The 18-55mm lens is actually an EF-S lens that doesn't want to play nice, but at least the 75-300mm lens works.
So I guess I'll be shopping for a new lens. I'm pretty sure I want a 40mm or 50mm prime lens, but I'm still mulling it over.
I’d vote 50mm prime. Looks like Canon still offers it as a refurb for a hundred bucks.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I'm leaning 50mm, too–at least until I get more comfortable with the camera.
$100 seems to be the going rate no matter where I look.
Congrats on the new camera. You want a 50mm 1.8, cheep but gets you a great full frame focal length and good image quality.
You've open a wormhole directly into your wallet.
I don't know if I should kick myself or not but I found an older Polaroid "shake it like a Polaroid picture" camera at Good Will for $6. I passed.

Oh I know, but at least it's not drugs.

I bought one of those refurbished Canon lenses for my wife, and she digs it.

Is it worth buying it?
Absolutely. Film cameras take the best shots of canoes and other watercraft.
I was expecting Isuzu content
The 50mm prime lens is a great choice, but I find that I take most of my best pics with a wide angle. Canon EF in 24mm f/2.8 is well-regarded.
