Oh, waitaminnit..she was only after a guy who rode in one. Carry on (pun intended!).

Lesley wrote: Woody, deal! I rarely drive the Mighty Dak these days, but often had guys ask me just "what in hell is under that hood?" at stoplights. Interviewed Ralph Gilles a couple of years ago, and told him about the 360 on an engine stand in the mudroom off my kitchen. It must've impressed him -- when I talked to him on the Chrysler trip to SF last week, he mentioned it, saying he found that "wildly attractive, but he was already married". Shoot, maybe I should buy another honking big engine?
Lesley, you sound like a prime candidate for the Pro Touring movement. The Dak's not "obvious" enough..get yourself a Cuda, Charger, or Challenger, and build that thing up!!
wonder what they think about a '94 Miata with a (soon to be) race car tribute paintscheme, a rollbar, and a 6 point harness on the driver's seat?
I still remember the first time my wife said to me "Are you sure you don't own a Corvette or something?"

You're a gay race car driver. So, while that might be an "in", you will be friend-zoned instantly.
Anyone who is not into cars (and even a lot of people who are into tracking their cars) think that the Miata or Solstice is a woman's car. Sorry
I began a short-term, uncommitted relationship with a girl because of her car in college: she had a ski rack.
We dated until spring.

I went for a great rack too.
I remember the day I test drove my Porsche before I bought it, I had at least 3 or 4 girls just stop and stare. It's not what sold me on it, but it didn't hurt.
Strangely though, the car I've owned that had the most attention by women, and by a FAR amount, was my '61 Fiat 600. Not only would they stare, but they would swarm you when you got out. If I took the dog with me, it was even worse (better?)!
My current dd, a G35 sedan, gets a ton more than my previous Miata ever did.
Lesley wrote: Yeah, I could roll in that. Green though, not yellow.
Yeah, don't blame you. I just got lazy & linked the first pic I found.
Funny thing that I drove a miata(actually 14 of them) for years and no female ever noticed. I cant count how many looks and comments I have received in the month that I have owned the Lotus. Even more than when I owned my last 911.
"He's never bought a new car and drives a 20 year old Toyota. But he races it!" Wonder if that would fly. Hey, I won my class!
I think the article in the opening post sums it up pretty well.
When I was single and dating (for a surprisingly short time, in retrospect), I used my junky cars as a litmus test. If someone woudn't be interested in getting to know me because I drove an '82 Corolla Station Wagon, it was a relief that I could spare myself trying to persue further.
It turns out...attractive, smart, level headed women who see beyond your possessions ARE out there. Good for me!

Girls didnt care that my mode of transportation at the time was a gutted E30. Lots of them would leave with cuts from where the back seat use to be...
I think you could get a girl in just about anything provided that it looks as good as it can. I picked up my wife in a pretty heavily prepared Mazda Mx3 in hot raspberry metallic paint! For being a 2k dollar Mazda, that ride was hot and it got me a lot of looks!
Now that I think about it, does it look like a Porsche?
