Is the civvy Hurricane engine actually more powerful and more importantly, does it fit without too much work?

you don't want that engine. They were short lived and plagued with issues...

A 300 Ford six would be a better engine. A diesel would be nice, but would double(and possibly triple) the cost of the vehicle.

A 4.0 Jeep 6 swap would be very cool.

The diesel version I've seen was a M.A.R.S. repower using a Hercules 4 cylinder turbo diesel. They also raised the gears from 5.87 to 4.88. It still went anywhere theyy pointed it, and got 24 mpg running at 65 mph. Not much wrong with it, except that it wasn't mine. Bummer! Buy this before it gets away, Tim!

Mars does 715's? I'm not aware. I've only ever seen them do M37's or Power wagons...

If you end up getting it and need a place to put it for a short time I know some people that live in Herlong, not too far off 395, that may be able to put it up for you for a time. Also there are ways to get back to Reno that don't have much pavement, lots of fun but not very fast.
