Ok, never mind. The new Smart Samsung TV doesn't have a optical output that I was using for my obsolete HDMI Yamaha 7.2 A/V receiver I use as a pre-amp for my 3.1 channel A/V Yamaha 120 slave amp per channel power amp.
I finally got it to play, I didn't have the TV turned on and nothing would talk to each other like the old Samsung Smart TV. Pictures and more data to come after the Yes Classics CD.
So, Three or so weeks later... I finally figured out how to get my new piece of E36 M3 Samsung 75" smart tv to see my Blu-ray player but I still can't get it to see my computer (The Receiver couldn't see the Blu-ray player until the TV was turned on). The old 40" Sony, and Samsung 58" and 70" could always see my stuff and everything talked to each other and I could switch between Blu Ray player, Computer, and TV for viewing and everything played through my TV or Stereo. Those other TVs also had either an HDMI, coaxial, or optical output that would talk to my computer or AV receiver.
Not this new piece of E36 M3. The TV wants me to log into my Samsung account and link my computer to the TV, I guess so that it can intercept every keystroke I input and sell it to some fool. Unfortunately, the only times I want to watch music videos is when Mrs Heretic is out of town and after I've had a few shots of rum and I have no idea where her password book is or where anything is listed.
(What the hell is with this "Handshake"? It sounds a lot like the equivalent automotive CAN emissions handshake thing.
I wonder if I don't need some kind of HDMI switcher?
I want somebody to die.
(Not literally Die, but suffer some serious electrical short circuiting or something.)
(It's also very odd that I was just diagnosed with diabetes about a month ago and now every YouBoob commercial is now about an alternative to traditional diabetes medications.)
Of my 3 TVs (2 Vizios, 1 Samsung) the Samsung is the one that plays worst with the outside world. Fortunately, it is the least used since it's in the basement. Because the only way to hook up to the Sony receiver is by using an HDMI cable, it thinks the receiver is the source so you have to switch the source. Every. Single. Time.
Sorry about the diabetes, I was diagnosed back in 2007. Keep a tight leash on it and you'll be fine. Make sure you've got a doctor that knows his stuff, MOST DON'T on diabetes or diet. Most just regurgitate the company (or CDC) line. Low carb, high quality food and exercise will go a long way.
Oh, and yes, your TV is listening.
