It doesn't happen often, but I had a car come through today that I couldn't get done for a client. Which doesn't sit well with me.
The long and the short of it is, I work for a company that installs breathalyzers in vehicles. This requires us finding a wire we can "interupt", to disable a car from starting until the client passes their test. Usually, this isn't a hard process. Maybe time consuming, depending on the vehicle, but fairly straight forward, if you think it through.
Today I had a 2010 Lexus HS250H (Hybrid) come in. I had installed a couple of Prius' before, but all of them were of the 2nd gen variety. This car is based off of the 3rd gen. I could not find a start wire to interrupt for the life of me. I called a good friend, who is a tech at a Lexus dealership, to see if he could pull anything up for me, and of course their EWD (electronic wiring diagrams?) was down. Nation wide.
Don't suppose we have any Lexus Hybrid/Prius wiring experts on here, do we? LOL. Would be awesome to be able to get her back in, and installed.
Would this be the place to not leave the comment about dropping her off at the bar till the car is done?
Interesting work. I never thought about how those get installed.
Does the car owner have a choice of where to get it installed or is it a court awarded contract?
isn't that a push button start? Just go to that harness....
Ok, if it was that easy, you'd have done it right? I hate new cars....
Do they still have to have their foot on the brake pedal to "start" it? If so, then brake switch! Electronic parking brake? Then make that sucker not engage! Will it start without the seatbelt on? If no, then try that.
Start clipping wires until it doesn't start...That's your wire.

One of Lexus's engineers is on my FB friends list... I'll send him a link and see if he can come over and comment.
The tricky part would be the "no starter" situation...Just tell the drunk to buy an older car.
Not a hybrid expert by any means. I know when I was installing Clifford key touch security back in the day we would interrupt the starter or fuel pump wires, I suppose you could interrupt the ignition wires at the switch so that nothing energizes when the key is turned.. if those things even have a key
