I've never had surgery, but my wife's having surgery today. I'm stressed out. I hate the waiting, I hate the unknown, and I hate that I know she'll be in A LOT of pain when she gets out.
I just want this day to be done.

I hope it all goes well. I've been on both sides, and being the one having the surgery for me was much easier than being the one in the waiting room.
Paitence. You'll get through it, fine.
And she'll need you.
I hated it, too, and spend a long night sleeping on the floor in the hospital. But it all ended up going quite well.
Good luck to her, and you. You'll both get through it.
My wife had surgery last year - it was supposed to be 90 minutes but went almost 4 hours. Yeah, I was sweating bullets by the time the doctor came to get me. But it all worked out fine, and I'm sure it will for you two. Again, my best to you.
It's a rough time, and I've seen a lot of families go through it. I always thought that would prepare me for my own family's surgeries, but it did not.
My wife had to have an emergency Cesarean section about 11 days ago and I can tell you I was wholly unprepared for it. I was at least lucky enough to be by her side during the whole thing.
Rehab is difficult I won't lie, but if you stay on top of the pain meds it helps a bunch. Set a schedule and stick to it, don't let the pain get ahead of you or it's impossible to catch up. You will get through this. Call if you need anything, I'll be in your area of course.
I have recently begun working with the surgery departments in hospitals and get to see the "behind the scenes" of how it all works. Even with the very best people and equipment, I still would not choose to go under the knife unless necessary. Not that I have seen anything scary or worrisome (quite the opposite in fact) but the fact remains that they are cutting you open...and that is not normal. Best of luck for a speedy, painless recovery.
Whatever prompted this to happen will be relived when it's all over. She's in the hands of professionals here to help.
Your angst is understandable, but she'll need your strength when she's out. Be there smiling. One's mental attitude is 80% of healing.
Speedy recovery

Well she's out and doing well. She had to have one of her Fallopian Tubes removed because it was damaged. She says the pressure that she always feels isn't there anymore. Hopefully the year and a half of pain she's been in is over.
Thanks for the well wishes guys.
Glad to hear, SWMBO had a similar problem and procedure, and it is nerve wracking, after a week or so she'll feel even better.
Good to hear! I'm with the crowd that always worries more when it's a loved one instead of m'self. It will heal, just do what they say about recovery.
Glad to hear the wife is OK.
My wife had sinus surgery last week. Its amazing they can do that through your nose. Took less time than anticipated, because a second Dr. guided the ENT with thermal imaging.
Next week I am going up to help my mom, shes having vertebrae fused in her neck. (bulging, almost ruptured disc)
Looks like I will be up there a week while shes off her feet.
