So, my 6-year old and I decided to build another hot wheels track and send the video racer down it. Our goal was to go from the dining room table, through the kitchen, down the two stairs to the landing by the side door, make two 90 degree turns then down the basement stairs. That's no easy task since if a car goes too fast it'll never make the turns or loops. Well, after a little over an hour his attention span is spent and he's reading a book. Fast forward another hour and I'm building up strips of electrical tape on the center of the track to slow the car down in strategic places, smoothing out the hills, etc. When my wife said I got this video racer for me, I said she was wrong, but I knew she was right.
If they'd have had these video racers when I was a kid I'd have never went outside.

Not that that's a bad thing...

This thread needs more visual media.

I'll get a video up. I had to shorten the track. When i started from the dining room table it was just a pain in the butt to bring the speed down. but, to keep folks happy, here's an older video or two.

Hahaha the kid doesn't get what's so cool about those little cars, you should tell him that it used to be a madman's fever dream to take video from a toy car going down a track, and you had to run them uphill both ways

No, he get's it. He's only 6 so 45 minutes to set up a track was a bit much for him. EVERY time I'd put two pieces of track together he'd want to test it out. It's been up and running for a while and he's been running cars down it on and off for at least an hour now. I'm uploading a vid now. I'll post a link if a new.
Here you go. I didn't make it 100% of the way down.

That looks like my last ride to work!!
good thing there's a slow motion replay...
Lots of work involved there.
My main question is, when I come over to your house, why do we stand around the driveway and talk jeeps and miatas, WHEN WE COULD GO PLAY WITH THAT!!?!

In reply to Aussie: I'm going to look for a ute matchbox car just to make you happy. And when I do, I'll post it here.
Joey, next time you over just say the word and you, me, and Lucas will build a track. My next adventure is to build a track outside.
That is awesome.
never knew they had those. Must get for my girls. And tracks of course.

I don't think they make them anymore, but you can find them on ebay easy. When buying tracks and such, look for the older, orange stuff. That is nearly indestructible, much better made than the modern stuff.

For the record- `they do sell the orange track in bulk again. Toys R Us has a whole section of it, with launchers and loops and all sorts of shenanigan causing parts.
Wow, that's awesome, I would've had track going EVERYWHERE, need more video!
The orange track is the best; when they were selling the yellow stuff I was hitting garage sales up to keep building. My kids are getting to the age they bring a box of track to the garage while I tinker and build something and hang out in the garage.
You need a scale model Paul Walker to drive it.

This is awewome. I LOVE the chase car/camera car idea.....it looks much cooler than simply looking at the track from a moving car.

Thanks. That turned out pretty cool. The trick to the video racer is lights, lots of 'em. The video I made yesterday has the side door open to let light in. There was too much of it though so it was washed out. My kids love the tunnel made out of PVC pipe.
