A slightly calmer version of the story: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/09/cards-against-humanity-sues-spacex-alleges-invasion-of-land-on-us-mexico-border/
SpaceX is far from a vanity project by a billionaire. But it sure looks like they screwed up here - you can look at the assessor's site and see the lot lines, and both satellite views of the land currently and Google Street Views of the land a few years ago. I think CAH has a pretty strong case.

Agreed.
I dont like or dislike the company, but man the CAH game is not fun.

Of course its full of hyperbole and attention grabbing phrases. Its an entertainment company self-reporting.
Just like Musk talking about what the cybertruck can do, you have to take it with a grain of salt.

That's why I linked to a more measured report. It's easier to take it seriously. And there's independent information in there.
Like I said, I think they have a strong case. It's unlikely Musk was driving the bulldozer that destroyed everything, but SpaceX definitely screwed up.
I forgot this thread existed, and then this story showed up in my news feed. CAH absolutely has a strong case, but I'm willing to bet Elon (and by extension elons minions that actually did it) don't care. This is going to be one of those acceptable loss situations for them. They made a ridiculous lowball offer on the land to CAH, and CAH of course said no. They proceed to use it anyway. CAH of course doesn't have the $$$ to keep full time security or staff on the land, or did they really monitor it at all from the sounds of it. Elons team knew this and sent it. Worst case scenario they pay an "oh sorry " penalty that doesn't even shave a hundredth of a percentage point off the bottom line and move on, which would be CAH winning outright. If SpaceX wins, that's even cheaper. It's a no lose situation for them for the sake of speed. That doesn't put back the damage to the land, the ecosystems, the native species, etc. Truth be told until this story hit the news I'm willing to bet musk-bot didn't even know it was happening.

I MUCH prefer your "measured report."
as an old guy, it seems most of the internet prefers to get their news Mr Asa's way.
FYI - if I'm reading the assessor's site correctly, it's a 0.4 acre lot. One of a large number of waterfront lots between a dirt road and the Rio Grande, a few of which were built on.
A 1/4 acre lot where "wild horses used to roam"... ๐๐
Maybe Musk should have sent the trees he cut down to the paper mill so they could make more CAH game cards.
Politically motivated millionaires getting pissed off at politically motivated billionaires.

...then use the money to buy a property for $35K and keep $2.2 million. Win!
