Not really, but I have discovered something about Nascar I can like. Have any of you seen the Speed TV show called Fast Track to Fame?
I recorded it not knowing what it was. The description said "Sports, Auto racing. No info" How can you go wrong with a description like this?
It has nothing to do with cars. Come to find out it was an American Idol like show geared to the Nascar crowd filmed at each track the night before the big race.
It is so corny as to be cute. You simply can't believe the language, the talent (juggling chain saws), the people, the judges, and more. I can't even begin to list all the oddities. They begin the show by having a fan shout out "Entertainers, start your engines!"
It is every stereotype about Nascar fans you've ever seen and they don't realize it. It is a cliche and they are reveling in it!
Did I mention Darryl Waltrip is the host? And he's not half bad.
Lots of beer drinking going on in the background.
I've got to add that Aarons Rent a Center is the main (only?) sponsor and they've found their kinda crowd.
Waltrip used to host a talk show on TNN (or maybe just guest host, the memory is a bit fuzzy), so he's had practice at it.
that is the worst show I have ever seen. Why is this taking up space on my televisions time, when they could be showing re-runs of Can-Am, IMSA GTO, TransAm or others...
we need SpeedTV Classic....
It's like a dog that's so ugly it's cute. When they're being serious is when I'm laughing the hardest. It's the old TV show "Hee Haw" at the race track.
The one I saw had 2 girls singing so far off key it made my ears bleed, but the got to the finals cause they're girls. I'm betting they popped their tops a few times off camera to get so high in the ratings.
It's friggin' hilarious!
Michael Waltrip hosts the show, not DW.
it is kinda like American Idol meets Hee Haw!
"Hey Ya'll, watch this!!"
When I get home from work, I'm going to kill my television.
For some reason, probably my ignorance, I'm having trouble posting a link. Google "Red State Tips for Democrats NASCAR" and watch the youtube clip.

Yup, that sums it up.
My kids have been getting a blast out of this. They can't believe this is for real and not some sort of comedic joke.
This just proves that every Nascar joke you've every heard has a basis in truth.
Chuckles that's some sort of wild google search. I'm afraid to do it.

Don't be scairt; it's kinda funny in a "bleedin-gum, squirrel-eatin" way:

Yesterday I'd have said that was stereotyping at the worst level, but last night I found out that's not cliche, that's the truth.
-slapping forehead-
Yeah, I suppose this is why people still make jokes about Southerners.
Ever felt embarrased by the "strange" relative at the family reunion? That's how I feel watching those folks. Grrr.

You may have missed what they said by concentrating too much on how they are saying it.
God, I miss SpeedVISION. Damn you Rupert Murdock!
In reply to chuckles:
Pretty much my take on the clip, too.
Watch some of their other clips and you'll see they are laughing at just about everyone who laughs at someone else.
Well this episode @ Bristol had a Dolly Parton impersonator. Actually I think it was someone impersonating a Dolly Parton impersonator or maybe she was impersonating the fat girl on Hair Spray, it was hard to tell.
I obviously don't spend enough time hanging around auto repair shops because obviously all of the shops have their own band made up of the mechanics. I need to quit doing my own work and just hang around the shop with the best music.
I'm must be getting used to this (OMG) because it didn't seem so ground breaking to me this time. Was it just me or did Michael seem gay to you to? NO, that couldn't be cause they don't allow that at Nascar tracks. They beat it out of them at an early age.
I had a thought at the end of the show, if you win do you tell anybody?
