Looks like J-Lo from the back.

That is a neat car... I'd drop in a modern V8 engine & trans and maybe sneak in a Vintage Air kit as well, but otherwise leave it looking as stock as possible (thinking super-quiet single exhaust). Cool looking runabout...

Plus 1, but I would go with dual and a set of cutouts for cruising

actually it more than likely weighs less than you think. I would say a nicely tuned 350 should be perfect for that car. Update things under the skin, engine, drive line, suspension, brakes etc if you intend to make it a "driver" but then leave it looking fairly stock from the outside.

I don't necessarily disagree, but at the same time, this would be time and a bit of money, whereas a lo-po SBC w/ a TH700 would give the car all the scoot it needs without taxing the 40's (more like 30's) era brakes and suspension too much. Just drive and enjoy.
The downside to my plan would be if getting the suspension and brakes back to "good" condition proves difficult and/or costly... then a modern hot rod swap may be easier/cheaper.
I think the car really needs lowering, chop top and either a flathead or stovebolt six. It make a nice retro hot rod.

Eh... IMO, there are enough hot rods runnign around these days and not enough original cars left... with that said, before I dropped in a modern drivetrain, I'd make an effort to find an OE engine and trans...
Personally, I don't think I could ever leave anything stock. That is why, even if I had the money, I don't think I would ever buy something like Ferrari 250GTO or a Hemi Cuda convertible.
Even with the diverse skills everyone here has, the compound angles required to chop that roof; oy, it would turn into a convertable real fast. Besides, it has character as-is.
Keeping it all in the family, Nash was bought out by AMC, so a nice little 390 would do it. I am rather partial to the 440 with the cross flow intake and two fours, but the width may be too much.
Definately a stick car though.
I'm usually the same way... but also believe there's a place for both. I mean, how many original Nash coupes are left? I doubt there are many... seems a shame to chop up one that looks quite restorable into a hot rod...
