I'm looking to buy a decent action cam to mount in my Jeep. Sure a Go Pro would be nice but since I'd probably only use it for jeepin trips, I can't justify the cost.

There are so many "action cams" out there and I don't know where to start. Things I want:

Small in size. Something like the Monoprice cam or the Polaroid XS100. I'll be mounting this to a grab handle on the top of the driver's side a-pillar and I don't want a huge blocky cam that blocks my peripheral vision.

Able to record while charging. I want to keep this thing plugged in as I plan on routing a USB cable up from the 12v socket on the bottom of the center stack.

Simple controls. I just need a couple of buttons. A wifi/Bluetooth phone interface would be cool but not absolutely needed.

Decent video quality. I'm thinking 720p or higher.

Decent sound quality. Are mono mic models decent? I'm not looking for cinema quality sound recording since it will be mounted in a soft top Wrangler. Nobody cares about hifi wind noise haha.

Decent storage capacity. Like 32gb or more.

A few different mounting options. Bar and flat surface mainly.

Things I don't need:

Time lapse recording or any other fancy recording modes.

Built in screen.

I'm just looking for a simple, decent action cam. I really want to stay under $150 if possible.

Halp?

I have a couple of the "Action Sports Cams" or whatever they're called that sell on Woot/Amazon/etc. for about $50 each. They're not bad. You do still need to buy an SD card, which can cost as much as the camera or more, but the camera does come with a variety of mounts. I used mine for an autox once or twice, but the rest of the time they've been used indoor for band gigs. Regarding sound quality, if you use the waterproof case, you'll not have much sound. Other than that, they're not bad.

I don't have any direct comparison with any other cameras, but I have a couple friends who bought these & have been generally satisfied with them.

SJCAM SJ4000. Compatible with GoPro mounts, has similar features to a high-end GoPro, costs about $80.

Also look into the Dazzne P2, as it is also GoPro mount compatible. It does what I need it to do and less than $100 on Amazon included a bunch of mounts and an SD card.
