Not really new, just the meteorological term the media/public has decided to fixate on this year. Because 'Polar Vortex' is soooo 2016

Give me the heat and the hurricanes.
I almost died from excess heat once, so...

My personal fave to date was the wife's 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Slip it into 4wd, crank the wheel all the way and make yourself sick. The front pulled over, the rear kicked out and you'd make a donut about 3' larger than your wheelbase. It. Was. Awesome.

Awd turbo dsm. Spun like a top. I was on video with several mall security offices.

However, I'll take our brutal July/August heat, and severe storms and threats of tornado's over having to deal with a real winter every year. Couldn't do it.
Yes, December 2007. 3 INCHES of ice. On everything. The roads, cars, yards, trees, shrubs looked like bizarre giant ice sculptures , Watching my dogs try to keep from slipping while relieving themselves on 3 inches of ice was good for a few chuckles.
Ill take winter over tornadoes and hurricanes any day. Warm isn't bad tho (as this is being written from our cruise ship in the southern caribbean).
And the world is closed today. The only issue at Casa de Toyman is a heat pump that sucked up all the snow and was a block of ice this morning. A moderate application of propane heat took care of that. And since one is apparently supposed to have French toast during weather events, that's exactly what we did this morning.

However...
SanFord looks a little chilly though.
The kids are having a blast.
I was born and lived in Charleston half my life yet I've still missed every snow Charlestons had in my lifetime.
13 degrees at my house this morning. Everything left on the road has frozen solid. It made the trip in to the office fun.
I'll take the Iguanas! 3* temp but a 19 mph breeze makes it feel like 17 below 0.

I know this is in jest, but this pisses me off. Take a look at the Alaska temps right now. Climate does not equal weather.
We warmed up for 2 freak days to the 40s. Back to single digits again. It happens here.
Extreme negative temps, giant snow dumps, hurricane force winds also happen just about every winter here and it doesn't make the news in the lower 48. Ever. National guard shoveling roofs and nobody hears about it out side of this state.

Check. Done them in AWD Charger and WRX this week as well as drifted the cummins ram. Did a 4 wheel burnout in the WRX last night with the assistance of launching at 4000 on a snow covered intersection. Still smiling about smoking more than 2 tires at once. I love snowy parking lots and streets. It was -4 when I got in the truck today then warmed up to 4 by 1pm, that 8 degree swing made it downright pleasant. Supposed to be 27 Sunday, hot damn that’s t shirt weather!

We get the winds. Makes it impossible to keep anything warm with 40-50mph winds and sub-zero temps. Also hard to keep the road open because of the drifts. Usually only 10-20mph winds and that is enough when it's 0 and below.

Good man.
Back into the teens for us tonight.
By next Tuesday we will be in the mid 60s.
By Thursday we will be in the mid 70s.
Got to love South Carolina weather.
Last week it was -30 or colder, no wind, sky was blue, sun shining. Today its a few degrees under freezing, and windy. I'll take -30 a calm, thank you very much.
In reply to Stampie : We laugh as we comment that ducks with tiny little brains are smart enough to fly south before winter.
Yet here I sit it was minus 12 this morning. I’ve got no excuse. My daughter works for the airline so I fly free.
That makes me dumber than a lazy duck
This year marks my second year back in TN from 3 years in south FL. I am certainly missing being able to go out in the garage and tinker whenever I wanted to down there. It's been in the teens and single digits for over 2 weeks now and I'm wishing I had a heated garage bad. It really puts a damper on the car hobbies for me. I've just been playing Skyrim, when I'm not browsing on here or craigslist and wishing I had a place for all the cool cars under 2k I'm finding.
And now the ice is gone. Leaving us with nasty roads, pot holes and 75 degree weather.
I turned the A/C on a couple of hours ago.
We hit 57 today in this part of ohio. Now were supposed to drop back to the 20's with ice starting at 4am followed by afternoon snow. Id rather it just stayed cold and snowed then deal with ice/wintery mix.
